Any good free Zip program

Featured Replies

I see Winzip now charges for their software after the trial period is up. Is there any good free programs for unzipping downloaded files? I just re-installed windows and MSFS and don't have a zip program now.

Winzip was always trusting people to be honest.I guess they've finally found out that people are NOT honest. If you've a grain of decency you purchase it, seeing as you've almost certainly used it for years without paying...

I always thought befor Winzip had a limited use evaluation version for those who just wanted it for unzipping, but didn't use all the other features. It is no longer available. If I needed all the featueres I would purchase it. Glad there are other programs that are free that meet those needs.

I've been using Stuffit Expander for years. Liked it enough to buy the full version, which does comression. The newest version supports RAR, so I can finally ditch Winrar.http://www.stuffit.com/win/expander/index.html

in that case you never read the nagscreen nor the license agreement...

I'm very happy with IZarc as it covers most of the compressing formats. The GUI is also similar to Winzip.http://www.izsoft.dir.bg/izarc.htm/Jan Bergwall

If you are using Windows XP it's built in - look for compressed folder under helpRegardsRussell Jourdain (NZL007/ZK-RHJ)

But I've found that a number of .zip files I've downloaded from avsim won't uncompress using the built-in .zip decompressor: I have to load them into WinRar instead. I don't know if WinZip has introduced some incompatibility into new versions or what.

"If you've a grain of decency you would not post such harsh comments like that."You're not familiar with his usual style then?

I use ZipCentral .... it's free and powerful :)

The program I use is 7zip. It handles zip files just fine, including ones from the avsim's file library. It is free.http://www.7zip.org/
