September 14, 201510 yr Hi everyone, well after a long time being away from flight sim world due to an unplanned "restructuring" in my personal life (4years I believe), I am now looking at getting back into it...and have a computer on its way as we speak!!!!!! YAY!!!! Anyways, due to the restructuring I speak of, I pretty much handed over everything I've owned which included my computer(a personal choice, kids in the mix so had to look out for what was best for them and not me) well as stated above I have a system coming in the mail, should be here by the end of the week. The system I bought is an Intel I5 650 3.2ghz with 8gigs of ram(I know old technology, but coming from what I had as a system before it's a huge step for me, plus I only paid 100$), I am looking for a graphics card to plug in when it gets here and am considering the Gtx 750ti as it is priced fairly cheap for my budget. So to get the the point of my post, keeping in mind that I am very confused with all this new hardware available now a days: 1)Is a GTX 750TI a good choice for the I5 650? 2)Also this system doesn't come with a hardrive, so I'm looking for one online such as a 1TB, anything in particular I should look for? Again I know it's not that good a system, but for me it's miles ahead of anything I've ever ran, I'm planning on using fsx for the first time, was a fs9 user for many years but seeing as how I'm starting over I'm trying to set myself up properly. Thanks for any help that you have to offer, this is an exciting moment for me to be getting back into this hobby :-p Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.
September 24, 201510 yr Gerry, we're glad you're getting back into flight sim! It's nice to hear someone so excited about it. Also, sorry to see that no one has responded in over a week. 1. The GTX750ti would run FS9 very very well if you were to play that still, and it will handle FSX - depending on what you plan on doing. With high settings and/or high resolutions, the 750ti will be stressed, but I have heard great things about that card for the price it's at, and it will work nicely in a restricted budget. Paired with an i5 650, should be nice. 2. Quick question, if it doesn't come with a hard drive, then you still need to buy an operating system, correct? Just checking that. As far as hard drives, it would be optimal to get a 60-120gb solid state drive for the operating system, and then a 500gb-1tb hard drive for all programs and other stuff. However, SSDs are more expensive than HDDs, so it depends on your budget.... If you just want to go for a hard drive, I would recommend some form of a Western Digital one, 7200rpm, 6gbps. Size and model are kind of up to you, I have not owned enough different models to recommend one specifically, but I trust the brand. I hope this helps and it's not too late, Jim James Schroeder 7900X3D | 4080 Super | G.Skill 64gb 6000mhz CAS36
