August 13, 200520 yr Looking to do some bush flying (Lakes, etc) and take a break from the Commercial sector.Which one is better FSD Pilatus PC6 or Real Air Scott
August 13, 200520 yr My choice? The FSD PC6. It is one of the easiest planes to fly, and it's STOL characteristics are absolutely fantastic. Of course I cannot comment on the RA scout as I don't have it, possibly someone else can add their input. With the PC6 you can land that thing on a pin head, and still have room to take off again, it's that good. Plus it has a float version too, makes for fun lake hopping!! -----------------------------"There is an art . . . to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss!" August 13, 200520 yr I prefer the Scout. It's a bit similar to the Cub but bigger and faster. I love the flight model. Keep in mind that the PC6 is a much bigger plane with turboprop where as the Scout is a two seat (tandem) with a piston engine. If you like bigger planes, maybe the PC6 is a better choice. Once you get Misty Fjords, Megascenery PNW, Alaska Cinematic etc. and get into bush flying you'll soon be owning both anyway :-lol -
August 13, 200520 yr They are both great aircraft. I the real world I would sure be partial to having a turbine engine for that kind of flying, but since it is sim land that is not a factor. I would get both if you were having a strong desire for bush flying.
August 13, 200520 yr Thanks for the comments,Is there a good Bush VA that has supply shipping, mail drops, as well as passengers? Thanks!Barry
August 13, 200520 yr Well, I do have the PC-6 and highly recommend it. I don't have the Scout (though I'd get it in a second if they put the new-style gauges in it like their Spitfire and SF.260) but I have heard nothing but good stuff about it, as with all RealAir products. The Scout and the PC-6 fill different niches. With the Scout, you carry one person and maybe a little luggage. With the PC-6, you can carry over a thousand pounds of cargo or passengers, depending on fuel load. The PC-6 is much closer to the DHC-2 Beaver than it is to the Scout. The PC-6 is an excellent product; it flies great, the panel and VC are excellent, great sounds, beautiful model, lots of nice little "lived-in" touches (empty gauge holes in the panel, bumperstickers on the glareshield, etc.). The outside is excellent and very detailed, right down to the flexing of the struts and the rubber boots on them. It's an ugly plane, but a beautiful model of an ugly plane, if that makes any sense. :)Flying it is an interesting experience. You have to learn to adapt to a slow-responding turboprop instead of a quick-responding piston engine, but once you do, it's a very easy plane to handle. My personal lowest landing speed record is 31 knots indicated with full flaps, and it wasn't stalled. It's an astounding short-field performer, and will go places virtually nothing else can. It's fun!Lewis "Moose" GregoryRichmond, Virginia Lewis "Moose" Gregory Durham, North Carolina
August 14, 200520 yr The FSD Pilatus PC6 is outstanding. The repaints available here and on FSD's website are the best of any I have ever seen for a GA check em out. Combined with the sounds,VC ,looks and how it flys makes it probably hands down the best amphibian ga ever produced for FSRegardsDennis Waggoner
August 14, 200520 yr >Thanks for the comments,>>Is there a good Bush VA that has supply shipping, mail drops,>as well as passengers?>>Thanks!>>BarryYa wants some fairly realistic bush flying? Check out the FS Economy forum just down the page a bit. It has all that you ask for and money (virtual dollars, v$) to boot. So far I've made around v$60,000 and am aiming for owning my own plane. For FSEcon you get out of it what you put into it. If you fly infrequently then you'll never get anywhere. I fly for 2.5 to 3.5 hrs each day. :D
August 14, 200520 yr Having just taken a vacation in Bush country, the Beaver and Cub outnumbers anything else that you can see up there. Aerosoft makes a nice Beaver. The Scout is a much smaller aircraft, and flys well also.
