August 16, 200520 yr About 1987, Manitoba Hydro, the CANADIAN provincial power company, placed in service a 138 kV transmission line from CYGX (Gillam) to CYYQ (Churchill) in Manitoba, CANADA. The line starts about 700 miles north of CYWG (Winnipeg) and runs north for about 175 miles. I flew from CYYQ to CYGX and could see the transmission line as a flew the route. I wonder how they knew that a small line like that was placed inservice? I work for Manitoba Hydro and know the line as I was in CYYQ when the line was placed in service. CYYQ was previousley powered by diesels. Microsoft, you always amaze me.JimCYWG
August 16, 200520 yr I think they paid top-dollar for this data and things like large overhead power lines are kept pretty up-to-date in government data files. I am also certain that the data is probably fairly up-to-date in North America, Western Europe and parts of Asia. The data is probably non-existent in other parts of the world.J Jeff Bea I am an avid globetrotter with my trusty Lufthansa B777F, Polar Air Cargo B744F, and Atlas Air B748F.
August 16, 200520 yr Author Hi, PICs, real and virtual. Have you noticed that what appears in FS200#'s basic scenery,is what is shown on our VTA and VNC REAL maps ? I would guess that "they" use official, easy to find data,to do their scenery, like, in Canada, FSS, CFS, AIP, ...etc......and, maybe, the net. Blue skies.
