October 10, 201510 yr I am considering migrating my entire HDD to a Samsung 850 EVO 1Tb SSD with their proprietary software. I have searched about whether I have to re-enter my licenses after the data has been transfered but haven't found anything regarding whether the machine address code (MAC) would be changed or not. I figure the disk is cloned so the registry entries would all be the same. I know that people often clone their drives but I have never read whether they have to do anything to get the sim and addons running. Has anyone out there migrated their data to an SSD? Thanks in advance. Robert \Robert Hamlich/
October 11, 201510 yr You should not lose activation of Windows using the Samsung Disk Migration Tool. I'm not sure it is 100% compatible with Windows 10 though. Their Magician Software certainly is not (yet). Provided of course that you do not also change your mother board at the same time. October 11, 201510 yr your drive has volume serial number you have to replicate the number from your old drive to the new for the system or application not to require reactivation, (if they do) open command window and try this command vol C: this will pull the volume serial number assigned by windows. wmic diskdrive get serialnumber this will pull the hard drive manufacture serial number. you can add the >log.txt switch to save the output to a file you can read later
October 11, 201510 yr Author I think I'll stay with Windows 7 x64 Greg, Win10 was nice but I had some problems running the sim with it. And Chris, thanks for the information on obtaining and using the serial number. On another note, my PC shut down last night and will not restart. I received some information from an acquaintance who thinks I may have fried my CPU. Never a dull moment when it comes to technology lol. Robert \Robert Hamlich/
October 11, 201510 yr YVW Robert, sorry to hear about the added hassle; prob a sensor indicating some fan stopped working or maybe psu is fried, (i dont thing its cpu)try to vacuum the insides of your pc; especially the gpu and the fan area(don’t use canned air; your just shoving the dust deeper)i use a soft painter brush(unused) with the vacuum hanging over; i will lightly brush over all the surfaces and hard to reach areas, take the comments out and give them a nice service; you will hear, feel and see them thanking you
