August 21, 200520 yr Now something related but different:Regarding AI aircraft, there is much difference between the different AI aircraft "providers" out there, that are fps smoother ?CheersMiguel
August 21, 200520 yr Try this, go to LAX and see what type of frames you get in the VC of the PMDG 747
August 21, 200520 yr >Now something related but different:>>Regarding AI aircraft, there is much difference between the>different AI aircraft "providers" out there, that are fps>smoother ?>>Cheers>MiguelI guess, although I've never had as much problem with them. I keep mine down around 50-60% on the AI. I have Air Navs traffic program, they seem to be frame rate friendly,I really don't take that much of a hit. I'm sure at larger airports with 20,30 or more it adds up,the fps hit while airborne is really nothing. On my nearly three year old system I have more trouble with Real Weather than anything else,I can easily loose 5 or 10 fps. So..I use the weather themes "building storms", which lays up a pretty good layer of clouds and haze and still get decent frame rates.
August 22, 200520 yr Ryan you dingbat. The monitor frequency is not the same thing as how many frames are displayed per second.
August 22, 200520 yr Welcome to the forums Cindy. Although I am sure you meant it in jest, please do not refer to our users as "dingbats" here. Most of us hear it enough from our wives (in my case, when I am in the kitchen) :)I also believe Ryan knows the difference between fps and monitor refresh rate--the example he gave for the latter is just to demonstrate how sensitive the eye is to screen redraws of any kind. Sit still using MSWord or Excel, as I do during much of my day, and the eye can tell the difference when the refresh rate is less than <72 or so, just as it is able to discern a difference in fps in your average game or sim well beyond the film standard of 24.I think one area where it becomes hard to discern a difference between fps in the 20 range vs. the 40,50 or 60 range is when the game or sim has stutter of some type. It's only in a stutter free environment that you can really see the difference since only then is one comparing "apples to apples". -John
August 22, 200520 yr Miguel, I have the answer to your problem as it WAS the same problem that I had. Last Jan I bought the very TOP OF THE LINE, ABS game computer for over $4,000 (U.S.) and needless to say I was very disappointed in the performance over the old, 2 year old Northwest Falcon computer, that WAS the top of the line. I have been flying Flight Sims since 1997 and was NEVER satisfied with what I was seeing.I always thought, why do we have to GUESS what is the best hardware and all of the many, many setting are to get the very best from our computers??? I know, I've been reading this forum for a long time and everybody else seems to think that they also have the answers, but I was never satisfied with their answers... until now. I heard about a computer tech that REALLY knew what to make Flight Sim 2004 look and run it's very BEST, and that's as good as you can get. His name is Mr Michael Greenblatt and he lives in Southern California. One day I called him on my cell phone and for over FOUR hours straight he TWEEKED EVERY thing that had to do with my computer and Flight Sims and a lot more. You can do a heck of a lot of tweeking in 4 plus hours. When he finished and only then after I saw the results did I send him a check for $100. I LOVE Flight Sims and this was the best $100 I have ever spent. I could not believe my eyes when he finished. At long last I finally the Flight Sim of my dreams. I don't have to read about new equiptment and how to do this or that anymore, I am 100 % satisfied !!!! Sad, but true, since 1997 I have spent over $15,000 (US) on 3 differant computer systems trying to make them like I have now. He set my FPS at 56 ( after testing for what they should be). Does it run EVERYTING at 56 FPS..... NO, but a lot of the time it does, but the main thing is now I'm really happy with my set and it is as good as it will ever be. ( I have a Viewsonic P225f , 22' CRT Monitor). Mr. Greenblatt can be reach at:1-562-420-1025 (phone) or at his website:[email protected] or [email protected] does NOT know that I have written this and the ony reason I have is to try to help others finnally get their rigs running like they have always dreamed. jerrycwo4
August 22, 200520 yr No, I did not mean it in jest and I chose my words thoughtfully. In any case, thank you for the heads-up I will not again refer to anyone here as a 'dingbat'

I find it increadably hard to believe that meaningful gains in fps could be had by just tweaking some numbers and not changing ANY hardware. And...I've yet to see hear how much tweaking (if any) was done to the sim itself by backing off on the sliders. I mean,I can gain anywhere from 5-10 fps by just not using Real Weather and going to a theme or no weather at all. I'll take a look again at his site.David
August 22, 200520 yr I agree David. It's amazing there has been no hard evidence posted with any meaningful data showing these "improvments". To be meaningful, the improvements have to be made with all the sliders right and the system running any combination of add-ons the user currently has. There is a long thread on this same subject on this forum regarding FPS. As I stated on that thread, I am an instructor in the very high end Graphics Display field typically working with computer displays devices that frequently run into 6 figures or more. A common mistake that people make is mixing up Frame Rates and Refresh Rates. This is what you did , Miquel, in your comment claiming that the other person was wrong saying that 24FPS was good for most people. Frame rate in FS2004 is the number of pictures that the program can create per second. Think of these pictures as stills.Refresh Rate is the number of times each still is flashed on the screen by your CRT diplay devices ( projector or Monitor). It is a refresh rate below about 45 HZ that causes "flicker". I see flicker when I watch PAL or SECAM in Europe, because I am not used to their refresh rate of 50HZ. The number of Frames per second in Europe is 25FPS. No how does Refresh and Frame rate work with FS9? Lets say that your PC and video card and FS9 is creating 25 FPS. Your monitor is set to refresh at 75Hz. That means that each Frame will be scanned 3 times, before the monitor will scan the next frame. Now if FS9 drops to 10 FPS, you will see jerky motion, but not flicker. Your monitor is still scanning at 75Hz vertically, it is just scanning each Frame over 7 times rather than the precious 3 times.
August 25, 200520 yr I'm afraid that you will have to take my WORD as to my satisfaction with Michael's services. I DID, repeat, DID get NEW hardware.... A $4,000 ABS top of the line computer, but like I said, I was disappointed in the results in the new computer UNTIL Michael TWEEKED it for me. You CAN NOT have a top of the line Flight Simular WITHOUT the TOP OF THE LINE hardware and that hardware mut be tweeked to perfection, that's what Michael did for me. I don't have to proved anything to anybody. If your NOT satisfied with your Flight SIm, buy the FASTEST system money can buy and have Michael tweek it for you, then and only then will you be 100% satisfied with 95% of all sliders at 100% and 100% Traffic. The sliders that are not at 100% are where they are for a reason and Michael knows what that reson is and we don't need to know, but just to enjoy the BEST Flight Sim display that 2 eye balls ever saw. I am not bragging and you to can spend the $4100 like I did and then you to will have the best, as I do and then you to will be 100% satisfied with your Flight Sim. Are you 100% satisfied NOW? jerrycwo4
August 25, 200520 yr "The sliders that are not at 100% are where they are for a reason and Michael knows what that reson is and we don't need to know"Michael's service has been discussed to a great degree in these forums. I believe he is quite good at what he offers--not from personal experience but because I know if I or any tech present in these forums were to devote several hours of our time to someone willing to listen to our suggestions, we could get similar performance boosts from just about anyone's system. I don't believe there is a need for all the embellishments added to posts praising Michael's service such as the one above--it's a baiting type of comment and should be avoided. Michael is a skilled technician but also wouldn't want his happy customers praising his product in such a way that makes it sound like a snake oil. Best to just say it helped you, and leave it at that. Now that his service has been mentioned, let the thread move on and the thread's author make the choice whether to use it or not. No need for a broader discussion of the service--that's already been done.-John
