Is DX10 different in FSX:SE ( for better ) ?...

Featured Replies

Because I just enabled DX10 mode and AA in the Graphics settings, restarted FSX:SE, and using Steve's suggestions, where he limits the FPX in the Nvidia Control panel instead of in FSX, but mostly set's everything as App controlled, I am getting excellent results with my whole A2A fleet, and so far no glitches or artifacts ?

Also using ASN and Rex Soft Couds, as well as my only add-on scenery ever for FSX or any other sim - AEROSOFT Madeira Airport.

I wonder if FSX:SE has somehow massaged the shaders ?

FSX-SE didn't modify any of the shaders as Dovetail was only able to make minor changes to the base FSX code. The DX10 stuff was in there since SP1 of FSX, I believe.

Yes, that's what I thought, but whenever I tried DX10 in the past, and before getting the shaders patch, and then Steves Fixer, I had the idea that I used to see a lot of artifacts... Yesterday I used DX10 mode for a while and think I just noticed the usual problems with some runways signs and markings... But, anyway, I have the Fixer now, and it's great :-)

One thing I noticed after using NI to set the graphics according to my Fixer options was that, in my system, with Usepools=0 in FSX.CFG, I get better results, by far, setting the FPS to unlimited in FSX.CFG, and no Vsync at all ( in FSX.CFG no VSync settings and in NI - application controlled ).

With DX10 mode I do not see the peaks in FPS I used to get in DX9, but it stays more or less stable between 25 and 45+ fps, no stutters and smooth.

Using FPS limiter and / or Vsync drops the fps to the 30- 20+...

I don't think you need to set buffer pools anymore in the CFG. FSX-SE will do that for you without any CFG edits.
