So I've been noodling with carriers in FSX. No matter what I try, I can't seem to receive an ILS from either the default carriers or Javier's, spawned with AICarriers. I've tried every frequency I've seen mentioned - 110.00, 111.00, 112.00. This is in the default F18, the VRS Superbug, and even a C172 just to try it. No dice. ILSs work fine to regular runways.

 

Is there some trick to getting the ILS from the boat?

The carriers dont have iLS. They only have TACAN so you can find the carrier, everything else is practise.

Hey thanks for the reply. But where, then, is the ILS coming from on all these youtube tutorials on carrier landings? There sure appears to be a way to turn on carrier ILS. Is this an add on of some sort?

To get ILS for Aircraft Carriers to work you will need to install the following ,

 

NEW_Realistic_HUD_for_the_FSX_Hornet

 

check it's Readme for details.

 

I gather that it includes the TACAN for frequency entry to enable ILS useage.

 

conduct a search at either Simviation or Flightsim websites ,

not sure if it is available here at AVSIM as I have been unable to access the AVSIM library for over a year.

Ah hah, thanks guys!  Of course I'm on the road but I'll try this when I get home in a couple days.

 

Follow-up question:  the specific thing I'm trying to accomplish is to be able to use ILS in the VRS Superbug aircraft to land on Javier's outstanding carriers.  Sure I can spawn a nice carrier from the Superbug software with ILS, but I really would like to be able to use Javier's as they are even better than the payware!  

 

So... this realistic HUD addon for the Acceleration Hornet looks like it adds ILS for those carriers to the Acceleration Hornet... any idea if it works some kind of magic that adds the ILS for other aircraft too?  (That seems unlikely considering the files are added to the Acceleration F18 folder specifically, but I can hope).  Or if not, is there any other way to accomplish this?  Or should I just be happy with the Superbug carriers in that aircraft, and fly the stock Hornet to explore Javier's carriers?

Ah, never mind guys, got it figured. I was missing that you could use the Superbug software to create not just stock carriers, but Javier's too, and then assign them an ILS at that time. All good now, but thanks for posting that addon HUD for the acceleration Hornet. Seriously amazing what this community can do!

If you prefer the older style analogue gauges that have a clock type face , 

there is one available.

 

It is TACAN based , but the instrument is the round clock style with the aircraft carrier ILS bars on the face

of the instrument.

 

It's ideal for older aircraft or those that prefer that type of presentation.
