Correctly identifying waypoint directions?

Recommended Posts

Sometimes I come across charts that do not display what coordinates (S, N, E, W) are there. LSZH is one example, take a look at what I face when I try to enter "D8" into my FMC (FlightFactor 757 for X-Plane) in order to capture LOC and APP for runway 14:

Then I'll look at the chart, but this is what I see:

How may I navigate with this?

Here's the chart http://www.fly-sea.com/charts/LSZH.pdf

Thanks.

D8 means DME 8 miles. It is not a waypoint of this approach. You need to set your Nav radio to ILS frequency and observe the distance readout.

And you also should have a general knowledge about there you are. Both D8 waypoints that you can choose from are clearly very far from Switzerland - you do not need any coordinates on this chart to guess that neither will fit (as they are both on the Western hemisphere).

For this approach, depending on your navigation database, the 8d waypoint might be coded as ci14, IKL8 or something similar....In your FMC, when you select the ils 14, you should be able to identify the waypoint easily on the legs page as it is 8 miles from runway 14 and has an altitude of 4000 feet.
