September 5, 200520 yr I stopped simming with FS2004 for most of this summer, but now I'm finding time for it again. Unfortunately, a strange problem has appeared. External textures for my aircraft, and often other AI aircraft, arbitrarily go missing during flight. At first the textures are there, and then they are gone. Often times certain panel textures in my virtual cockpit (VC) go missing, too. Once the textures are gone, they rarely return, leaving me with simple gray models to look at.Land and building textures never disappear, just the external aircraft and VC textures.I can't figure out what's causing this, or what might have changed to cause this. I play other sims as well and none show any graphic anomolies.I originally thought this had to do with my upgrading to new graphics card drivers, but I've since uninstalled the new drivers and reinstalled the old drivers, but no joy.Can anybody help?Thanks.-- WaltFlying FS9.1 at 1600x1200x32Intel Pentium 4 640 HT 3.20GHzWindows XP Pro SP21GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz (2x512M)256MB PCI Express x16 ATI Radeon X850 XT PEDirectX 9.0cViewSonic P95f+ 19 inch Ultrabrite CRT MonitorSound Blaster Audigy2 ZSCreative I-Trigue 2.1 3300 SpeakersMS ForceFeedback 2 joystick
September 6, 200520 yr As a follow-up, I've noticed that I can restore the missing textures on my own aircraft by going to the select aircraft menu, load an alternate paint scheme, then reload the original paint scheme. I have to load the alternate paint scheme first because when some textures disappear from my aircraft, the same textures are missing from the the aircraft preview as well.Isn't that strange? Some external textures disappear from my aircraft during flight, and these same textures are also missing from the select aircraft menu preview. These textures are restored, however, (for a while at least) when I load an alternate paint scheme for my aircraft, then reload the original paint scheme that had lost some textures.I just don't get it. :(-- WaltFlying FS9.1 at 1600x1200x32Intel Pentium 4 640 HT 3.20GHzWindows XP Pro SP21GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz (2x512M)256MB PCI Express x16 ATI Radeon X850 XT PEDirectX 9.0cViewSonic P95f+ 19 inch Ultrabrite CRT MonitorSound Blaster Audigy2 ZSCreative I-Trigue 2.1 3300 SpeakersMS ForceFeedback 2 joystick
September 6, 200520 yr >Which aircraft, and are they default textures or add-ons?>>Both. Textures have disappeared from the default Robinson chopper as well as Aerosoft's SH-60 Seahawk and RealAir's Siai Marchetti SF260.Textures also disappear from some (simple) AI aircraft.-- Walt
September 6, 200520 yr When you rolled back to earlier drivers, did you do a full uninstall of the latest one? Because otherwise, if you did not, any fault of the later driver may still be apparent with the earlier one.Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a] _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
September 6, 200520 yr I have the same sort of problem, all textures disappear, some parts of my own aircraft textures disappear together with my ai aircraft or scenery, but its different parts on different occasions, i think it may have something to do with overclocking, my p.c is pretty powerful, but i.e if i fly into heathrow its ok , until the textures of the ai aircraft start to show up and it slows right down, im not sure if your having the same sort of problem
September 6, 200520 yr Thanks for the suggestion, Mark. When I've rolled back the drivers, I've run ATI's uninstall app (AtiCimUn.exe). Immediately after running this, I've checked XP's Add/Remove programs for any remaining ATI or Catalyst apps, but that reports clean. If there is something else to uninstall, I'm not sure how to do it.-- Walt>When you rolled back to earlier drivers, did you do a full>uninstall of the latest one? September 6, 200520 yr Thanks for the input, Daniel. I just tried flying in another high-density location--KORD O'Hare. I've got boat-loads of AI traffic! With traffic set to 40%, I flew from Meig's to O'Hare. My aircraft textures were fine until I got to within several miles of O'Hare, when one-by-one textures began to disappear from my aircraft.Initially, AI aircraft at O'Hare all had their textures too, but by the time I got low enough to start buzzing the tarmaks, *all* AI aircraft appeared to have lost their textures.I've got a powerful system, and I've flown with plenty of AI before. That's why I don't understand why this is happening.-- WaltFlying FS9.1 at 1600x1200x32Intel Pentium 4 640 HT 3.20GHzWindows XP Pro SP21GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz (2x512M)256MB PCI Express x16 ATI Radeon X850 XT PEDell/ATI Display Drivers dated May 2005.DirectX 9.0cViewSonic P95f+ 19 inch Ultrabrite CRT MonitorSound Blaster Audigy2 ZSCreative I-Trigue 2.1 3300 SpeakersMS ForceFeedback 2 joystick>I have the same sort of problem, all textures disappear, some>parts of my own aircraft textures disappear together with my>ai aircraft or scenery, but its different parts on different>occasions, i think it may have something to do with>overclocking, my p.c is pretty powerful, but i.e if i fly into>heathrow its ok , until the textures of the ai aircraft start>to show up and it slows right down, im not sure if your having>the same sort of problem
September 6, 200520 yr Hey Walt, ive just been on tips and tricks, subject:FS9.CFG - Care and Maintenance"Ive just read through the post and changed a few things in my fs9.cfg, especially my driver details, i was amazed to see that the driver settings inside the cfg were of my old driver, i changed it to the details i found from system/hardware devices, i started fs and wholla, it was loading amazingly quickly, textures loaded almost immediately, for the first time in ages all my settings are full max and still its fast.Try it, it may solve all your problems, it has mine.* Remember to back up your fs9.cfg at least twice *Cheers Pal
September 6, 200520 yr Thanks for the suggestion, Daniel. September 7, 200520 yr your graphics card might be overheating. My X850XT now takes longer to load textures and after flying for a while I get artifacts flashing on the screen.
September 7, 200520 yr Overheating? Hmmmm. What to do? My system is 4 months old. Maybe I need to open the box see if there are any spider webs inside?? Seriously. I'm going to check.Thanks.>your graphics card might be overheating. My X850XT now takes>longer to load textures and after flying for a while I get>artifacts flashing on the screen.
September 7, 200520 yr Okay, I took a look under the hood and aside from a little dust (and I expected to see more) no critters have made a home on the graphics card, and all the fans appear to be running, and FS9 is the only app giving me trouble, so I'm going to assume this issue is not due to a hot component. I'm starting to think now that some software aspect of FS9 has become askew or become corrupted.-- WaltFlying FS9.1 at 1600x1200x32Intel Pentium 4 640 HT 3.20GHzWindows XP Pro SP21GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz (2x512M)256MB PCI Express x16 ATI Radeon X850 XT PEATI Display Driver dated 5/2005DirectX 9.0cViewSonic P95f+ 19 inch Ultrabrite CRT MonitorSound Blaster Audigy2 ZSCreative I-Trigue 2.1 3300 SpeakersMS ForceFeedback 2 joystick
September 7, 200520 yr Have you tried turning down aircraft texture size in the menu ?? With all the textures being loaded for AI, Scenery etc... You may just be running out of room.Regards,Roman FS RTWR SHRS F-111 JoinFS Little Navmap
