August 20, 200421 yr Commercial Member I'm looking for a fairly large scale metal 767-300 model. Does anyone have any advice on the best place to get one?Regards,Wade
August 20, 200421 yr You might have better luck in the scale modeling forum. How big is "fairly large scale"? At 1/48 you're talking 3.25 x 3.75 x 1.08 feet. Most commercially produced *plastic* airliner models are 1/144 scale or smaller. Even at that scale the model would be 1.08 x 1.25 x 0.36 feet. You're limited even further by the "metal" requirement. Production of metal scale models (in any sort of volume anyway) is EXTREMELY rare. One of the problems with metal is that, given that it is somewhat more difficult to work, models would need to be fairly big in order to show a reasonable level of detail. But the bigger they are, the heavier and... well, bigger... they are.
August 23, 200421 yr Author G'day Wade,Don't know about THE best but Corgi have an airliner series of metal models. I have the Qantas B707-338C which is 1:144 scale which equates to 300 mm wing span. They are made in China ( isn't everything) and are very well detailed and come very neatly boxed. Mine cost $180 Aus. so they aren't cheap but probably would be a fair bit cheaper in America ( isn't everything :-) ). For some strange reason the Horizontal Stabilizers are PLASTIC ( might be a C of G problem for the model to sit on its wheels - not sure) but the rest of it is die cast metal. Because of their cost/low volume sales you are likely to find models like this at specialty model shops. Do a search on Google.Cheers,Roger @YSSY Cheers, Roger http://forum.avsim.net/public/styles_images/flags/au.png
