Windows 10 and ShadowPlay causing 100% CPU utilization

I spoke too soon, ShadowPlay problem returned ... ugh.

 

EDIT: I was able to come up with a work-around that cleared the 100% CPU utilization.

 

1.  Alt + Tab to desktop and load process explorer and Kill NVSPCAPS64.EXE

2.  Bring up Windows Services (Search Services)

3.  Restart NVIDIA Streamer Service

4.  Bring up Geforce Experience, re-enable ShadowPlay

5.  Return to game/sim (Prepar3D)

 

No response from nVidia ... I'll give another week or two, but if I can't get this and Saitek issue resolved them I'm back to Win7

Rob, off topic but worth noting. Your GPU temps are at an unsafe level.

I'm a rebel ... but for whatever reason I like to use F whenever possible, C is the default and most work with C so easy mistake ... but hey, at least someone is paying attention

My thoughts exactly regarding a possible reinstall of Windows 7, I had far less issues recording and gaming vs Windows 10. Thanks for keeping us updated, good work as always.

I believe Microsoft next major update is "Redstone" and due out this summer ... it's focus has changed from "new features" to "fixing core issues" ... so we shall see.  But for now I think it's back to Win7 or find some other product that can record 4K videos efficiently.

Quick update, I went back to Windows 7 with the following Nvidia Drivers: Nvidia Driver Version: 359.06 and GeForce Experience (Shadowplay) Version: 2.9.1.22. Much, much smoother, and my games are running about 20% better FPS.

Nice, those C90 lights look great, both internal and external.

 

I'm still on Win10 ... trying to decide if I can wait until summer for the next major Win10 update or just wipe and go back to Win7.  Saitek didn't deliver their Win10 Throttle quadrant drivers as promised (but I haven't experienced the swap issue recently) ... still waiting to see if that ever happens ... was told 2 weeks ... maybe that 2 developers week which is about 2 months normal time .

 

Doesn't seem to be any acknowledgement on this issue on the nVidia front so that doesn't bode well for a solution there ... sounds like I'm the only one having the issue.

Bring this back to life ... problem with ShadowPlay still existings for 3 monitor setup with "Allow desktop capture" ... just enabling ShadowPlay will cause slow and unresponsive desktop.   Note I'm NOT recording, just the act of enabling ShadowPlay causes the desktop to be unresponsive and delayed.  If I wait 2-5 minutes my desktop will come back to life.

 

I think the key combination is Windows 10, 3 monitors, "Allow Desktop Capture".  But interestingly, "Allow Desktop Capture" will ONLY capture/record the display that has been flagged as "primary" in NVCP ... so it's NOT really "Desktop Capture" ... I guess this makes sense since ShadowPlay max resolution support appears to be 3840 x 2160.

2. Upgraded to new MOBO/CPU

3 upgraded to win 10 1511 from original win7->win10 upgrade

3a. Complete from scratch install of P3d v3.3.5

4. Upgraded to GTX 1080

5 . Latest Nvidia, and Shadowplay installed.

 

... All I get is a green circle with a red slash going from bottom left to top right ....OR ...last night a green circle... lying that it was recording to a drive set aside expressly for video recording.

It's still a problem for me with three monitor setup, but that's because ShadowPlay does support 3 monitor surround resolution ... it'll only record the single primary monitor (assume you have set a Primary monitor?).  But even if you could record at 3 monitor resolution, what would you use to play it back?  No media player I'm aware of supports those types of resolution.

 

The solution is a large single 4K monitor ... OR mount a GoPro to your head/chair and stick with 3 monitor ... speaking of GoPro, there new 4K GoPro is a nice unit.

 

Of course the final destination will be a curved 80" 8K monitor which the GTX 1080 does indeed support.

Hi Rob,

I have experienced the symptoms you mentioned,particularly a lag in the recording starting, along with some subtle but noticable micro pauses during recording. I experience similar symptoms when I use shadowplay to record in X-Plane 10. I find that if I revert to OBS to record, I have a more fluid recording.

 

I also recall that the shadowplay pausing was more noticable after updating to the current nvidia driver.

Solution!…

 

At least for me ... In order to get a legitimate Windows activation key, upgrade process to Win10, I had to reinstall Windows 7, And then do an in-place upgrade to Windows 10.

 

I had to start from scratch, because,

 

1.I had just installed a new I7-6700K, MoBo and GTX 1080. I had done my research. I found that all I needed to do is call Microsoft to do a new registration key since the keys were hardware based, BUT;

 

2. Previously, thinking that I would be cool and forward-looking, I had become a Windows 10 insider, eight months ago. Being an insider" meant that I was getting the newest versions of Windows 10 Betas… Little did I know that that, and Windows support, would screw me in the end.

 

I was told that I could not go from Win10 Insider "Evaluation build" to the Win 10 Anniversary version, due out Aug 2, 2016, "because the registration key as an insider, had changed from my oldWin10 v1511 Legit Key... And they could not provide me with a new.registration key without A Complete re-install". This info was per Windows tech-support ...as it turns out, it was totally wrong.

 

3. Bottom line, I wanted to properly support my new hardware so I decided to do everything from scratch new windows, new P3D, newly installed DLC.

 

4. BUT...I downloaded "Windows seven N" ...Windows is Windows… Right?… Wrong!

 

I've come to find out there is NO MEDIA PACK included with ANY version of "Windows N". Apparently, Shadowplay needs up a part of the Media Pack in order to do it stuff. Once installed, with KB3099229_x64.msu  Shadowplay worked for me.

Rob....I have been worrying that my problem may be off topic...and that I may have hi-jacked the thread.... That certainly was not my intention…

 

...I just ran across this information and I definitely pertains to my post about upgrading from windows seven or 10 not being able to be activated after major hardware change.
