January 24, 201610 yr Hi Guys seeking some advice I'm trying to land KSFO Rwy 28R Navigraph Chart shows Ils/freq 111.70 / 284 FMC shows 111.70/ 281 have attempted 3 times achieve both LOC/GS Capture approach at correct level however aircraft takes a wide angle final approach attempting to correct on short finals landing pitching wide of the rwy. I descend using FLCH and land with VS not sure if this has a bearing as opposed to using LNAV/VNAV on descent, Also as an aside I always find when I use HDG SEL then later try to cancel this returning to allow the autopilot to control the descent I get the FMC message not on Intercept heading despite being on the FMC Hdg for the waypoint, I wonder if leaving autopilot control to use FLCH & VS is taking my plane off course unknown to me and this is why i'm off course when attempting to land on the rwy centerline in the correct aircraft landing profile as the aircraft struggles to align itself? Any thoughts most appreciated Richard Richard Coombs
January 24, 201610 yr The difference in magnetic heading between the chart and your FMC will be a change in magnetic heading. You should use (course) the magnetic heading that your actual scenery has. I think default FS9 has 282 magnetic. At what angle and at what distance and at what speed are you trying to intercept the LOC ? You must press the APPR button (or LOC then APPR) when you are intercepting the LOC if you wish to perform an ILS approach. This provides both lateral and vertical control are handled by the A/P and/or F/D. Unless you are attempting an autoland you need to be disconnecting the A/P and flying the aircraft yourself onto the runway. That is how an ILS landing is operated. Disconnect A/P at say 1000-1500 feet. You are confusing a number of modes in your second paragraph. HDG SEL; FLCH; and VS are all A/P modes (and F/D modes). What is the aircraft you are flying ? Have you done the tutorial flight ? The best way to change from HDG SEL to LNAV (which is what I think you meant to say), is to select the waypoint you wish to fly to in the LEGS page and insert it as the next waypoint. Then select LNAV on the MCP. Some FMC use a DIR TO menu instead. Peter Schluter
