Help with Upgrading My Desktop

Recommended Posts

Hello Guys , i hope you are doing well,

This are my specs right now :

CPU:Intel Core i5 3470

GPU:MSI GT630

MB:ASUS  P8H61 R2

RAM:8 GB 1333

and i'm not happy with my frame rates right now . some times i get 12FPS with my installed addons.

do you think upgrading my GPU to a "GTX 750Ti OC" will increase my performance ?

will i be able to run P3D V3 ?

if not , what are your suggestions ?

Kind Regards

FSX is very much a CPU-heavy program. Performance is also often related to the add-ons you're running - under certain circumstances occasional dips to 12 FPS, with high settings in FSX, would not be unusual even on quite a powerful system. It's all about compromise and finding a balance between performance and quality. That said, if you install some monitoring software such as MSI Afterburner you'll be able to compare the CPU and GPU usage to gauge which may be limiting your system. If you find that your GPU is regularly at 100% (whilst your CPU is lower), there's probably some value in upgrading it. If you do, and you're on a budget, I'd go for a GTX 950 (or preferably a 960) for not much more than you'd pay for a GTX 750ti. See http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-950-vs-GeForce-GTX-750-Ti - the 960 performs even better and both use much less power.

Overclocking usually gives a noticeable boost in performance (it's a fairly linear improvement in FSX as you increase the clock speed) and your motherboard link says that your motherboard supports this. However, you can't overclock your existing CPU so it may be worth exploring a change to a CPU which does.

If you're using onboard video and you put a GTX 950 in you'd definitely get a fps increase. Still your PC is weak and I wouldnt expect much with addons running.
