I supplied one more reason why a line pilot of a 747 might go fly an A320 - to get experience in an Airbus cockpit prior to transitioning to the A380. So why wouldn't I link to the A380?Frankly, if you're that sensitive on the issue, go find another thread. This one is interesting enough without your input - you haven't contributed anything so far. So just sit back and read.Allcott

Why would a long haul pilot go to shorter routes only to go to a 380 and do long haul again? I realise you may pray to Airbus gods when you wake up but the rest of us (sane anyway) see both aircraft makers for what they are; great aircraft manufactures. Wether you like it or not Boeing isnt going anywhere. Opps I just posted again.....so sorry.
October 10, 200520 yr Fine, at least you posted something on the topic Randy. Don't get fixated on Number Four, there have been lots of good reasons why jet jockeys change horses mid-stream.Fact is though, 747 is at the end of the line, relatively speaking. Boeing have no competitor lined up against the A380, which may come to dominate its sector of the market (actually, as it's the ONLY aircraft in that sector, it already does!). It's a completely different topic about whether the `Boeing philosophy` or the `Airbus philosophy` is going to be the correct one for the next thirty years of airline travel. But an astute pilot (not sick of long-haul, not worried about spending time with the kids but interested in taking a further step up the career ladder) could well think that some familiarisation time with Airbus technology might be a career-enhancing step in the future, when A380 berths are going to be the `one to have`? That is what I am talking about, and numbers do have a role to play in assisting that decision, just as much as personal preference. You wear your heart on your sleeve for Boeing, so let's hope their Dreamliner doesn't turn out to be a nightmare, and that Airbus can sell enough Zeppelin-sized jets to recoup the development cost and justify the billions being spent by airports to accommodate them. October 10, 200520 yr Allcot, master of the world of elves and unicorns.I am a proud British Citizen who just so happens to be also naturalized American citizen. My family is in Europe, I own a flat in Camden, London and my father is buried in East London Cemetary. So your comments are not only misinformed they are idiotic. I am as proud of the Union Jack as I am of the Stars and Stripes...so you've bruised no American pride here. This thread has nothing to do with Airbus vs Boeing. Grow up and stop being so obtuse.Mike T.
October 10, 200520 yr Interestingly enough, you'd be surprised how high infidelity is on both sides of the coin for pilots and flight attendants. I could tell you stories from my days at COA but then Tom would ban me for its xxx rated content. :-lolSometimes its good to be home to keep your finger on your Glock 9mm so that Bob next door doesn't end up sipping champaigne in your hot tub with wifey. You can't do much to stop that at FL370 over Atlantic Track Z :-lolRegards,Mike T.
October 10, 200520 yr >This thread has nothing to do with Airbus vs Boeing. Grow up>and stop being so obtuse.>>Mike T.I know. I already said that. The jingoism card wasn't introduced by me. For God's sake, read before you speak. You ought to re-direct your comments to the person that did. For the final time, there are sound commercial (career-enhancing) reasons why a pilot might want to switch from Boeing to Airbus, but I don't think accusing him of being an idiot or a racist is a viable - or legal - interview tactic when asking him why he wants to fly an A320. I don't care what flag you fly, you're shoving it up the wrong flagpole. Moderator?Allcott
October 11, 200520 yr Comment 4 was made with a question mark by the poster and personally I think it makes perfect sense that getting in to a 380 would be easier from a 320 than a 747. Just my opinion and not intended to be seen as any kind of mess on the floor. LOL
