Terrain and water squares: please help!

Featured Replies

Anyone knows how to get rid of these nasty squares that I encounter on FS9 during night-day transition, both on land and sea?I have a PIV 3.2 GHz, 1 Gb Ram, ATI Radeon Pro 9800 128 Mb.Thanks and regards,James

You can't get rid of those suqares. It's the way the engine fades down/up light as you are in a sun-set situation. It normally lasts about 10 mins and can by very annnoying at times.

Hi there,I recently noticed that having Terrain_Max_Vertex_Level set to 21 (in the TERRAIn section of the FS9.cfg) instead of the default 19 seems to "mess" with the ground shading algorithm. This algorithm obviously calculates terrain shades within the LOD13 grid system, which coincides with the squares you see in your screenshots. For some reason, a higher TMVL setting "confuses" that process and leads to square shades of mountains on water and may also be responsible for the overly obvious transition that Peter describes. In short, if you have set your TMVL to 21 you may want to try reducing it to 20 or even 19.Then again, the two issues may be unrelated.Cheers, Holger

Unfortunately I already have that parameter set at 19, thanks anyway for your suggestion!
