October 14, 200520 yr Hi AllJust took a look at the Wilco A380 Airbus, and am considering purchasing this aircraft for my livery. If anyone out there has this program, can you comment as to how it flies and if there are any problems with the aircraft.Thanking in advance for any comments.Kenny G.

October 14, 200520 yr Despite the adverse comments I have seen about this aircraft (a lot of which were written before many of the problems were fixed in the patches), I finally decided to buy it yesterday. You must understand (as some of the 'commenters' appear not to) that this is NOT a fully featured detailed simulation such as the PMDG 737/747, the Level-D 767 or even the PSS Airbuses. It is intended to give you more than the default planes, without requiring you to read through hundreds of pages of manual just to get the engines started! Don't get me wrong, I have all of the 'detailed' planes referred to above, and I love using them, but just don't always have the time to do so properly. So I bought the A380, partly for those occasions when I want something simpler but still a bit more complex than the default planes, and partly because I am interested in Airbuses. So far I have just 'messed around' with the A380 and completed the tutorial flight. I have to say that I am, for the most part, pleasantly surprised. The aircraft systems are reasonably detailed and would, I think, give a beginner a good introduction to the use of more complex aircraft, particularly Airbuses. The aircraft is not without its problems, though, for example the compass strip in the PFD 'flashes' (this may be a problem with my system), the aircraft does not flare on autoland (this has been mentioned previously) and the landing gear trucks do not rotate onto the ground properly on landing. The other aspect to the A380 is, of course, that it is new. There have therefore been all sorts of criticisms about the model and the flight dynamics being inaccurate. I'm not qualified to comment on these, save to say that the model looks reasonable to me (I spend most of my time in the cockpit, so I'm not particularly concerned about the absolute accuracy of aircraft models) and whether the flight dynamics are accurate, only time will tell. Again, you should take into account that this is not intended to be a fully detailed simulation. At the risk of being pilloried by other members of this forum, I would recommend the Wilco A380 PROVIDED you understand what it was intended to do.Hope this helps,Boogie.P.S. While I was typing this, another member has posted - nothing I have said above is intended as a criticism of him.
October 14, 200520 yr Out of curiosity I looked at it yesterday and it does in fact seem to be a nice typical Wilco 'fleet' product, not too hard, not too soft so to speak.Personally I'm looking forward to the 777, Feelthere is crafting one pretty vc/model.Have fun :)regards,Markhttp://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a319/markrey/lds1.jpgXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1GIG/X700pro256 Regards, Mark
October 15, 200520 yr Author Hi BoogieTks. For your reply and to the others.I took the plunge and purchased this aircraft, and did the tutorial without crashing it.One thing I did notice there appears to be some runways and ILS missing in Ontario Canada Toronto CYYZ etc.Not sure if I am doing everything correctly, possibly there is another page I am supposed to open up which have the other runways and ILS Freq.Anyways I am still on the learning curve and hope to have this plane mastered in the next several days.Have a safe one.Kenny G.
October 15, 200520 yr I bought it the day it was released, and I can tell you that it is very simplistic. Not worth it at all, unless you really must have a A380. Money can definitly be put to a better sim than that.Better Airliner Sims:DF 727, PMDG 747, 737, F1 ATR72, LD 767, Feel There ERJ 145, MAAM DC3, IGFLY Tu-154M (if you are missing any of these, get them instead, not the wilco a380)
October 15, 200520 yr KennyG: I have checked the file: C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9WilcoA380NavDBRunways.dat and only two ILSs are listed for CYYZ. I can think of 3 possible remedies: firstly insert the other ILSs in this file (after backing up the original, of course), secondly using an airac from www.navdata.at, as mentioned in the A380 FAQ on the Wilco site (although I'm not sure which airac to use, there isn't one for this plane), or thirdly, I presume it would work if you input the ILS frequency in the Nav1 radio.Debsonic: No disrespect, but my point is precisely that you can't compare the A380 with those detailed Airliner Sims you have listed - they are intended for entirely different markets. I remember Aerosoft had exactly the same problem recently when they released their (simplified) LTU Airbuses, despite making it clear what they were selling.Boogie.
