UIAutomationCore.dll

Recommended Posts

I've recently come back to FSX and was having problems with seemingly random CTDs of FSX CD version in Win10. In the end I installed the steam edition and that cured it. However when I read this thread and guide I went back to the disk version and post CTD used windows event viewer and found that the uiautomationcore was to blame. The version being used by FSX was I presume the Win10 version in c:\windows\system32 dir. As suggested I downloaded an earlier uiautomationcore (version 2008) and installed it in the FSX directory. So far so good - no more CTDs.

As stated in the AVSIM CTD Guide, the uiautomationcore.dll "fix" only fixes Menu crashes.  It will not fix any other type of crash.  So, if you right click the VC at least 19 times and select a menu, you MIGHT get a crash but so far I have not been able to replicate it.  Still, that is the only thing the uiautomationcore.dll (a module within the Microsoft.net package) fixes.

Thanks for your information.  I hope it does help others.

From recollection I only remember it crashing once whilst in a menu. But after using windows event viewer each time I looked it said uiautomationcore.dll was the cause of the crash (assuming I am understanding the log correctly). After replacement of the dll from that time on it didn't crash again though from what you say that may have been coincidence.

However, following all this I loaded FSX with a lot of scenery and started getting OOM errors so I abandoned FSX CD and permanently switched to the steam edition. No problems since.
