Running Gauges, FMS, Etc. Outside of FSX / P3D

Featured Replies

It states somewhere in their sales blurb that Flight1's GTN750 runs outside of FSX/P3D.

This apparently has benefits to the running and VAS of the Flightsim...

I guess it kinda connects through Simconnect...

sooo  why can't aircraft dev's make their process intensive and memory hogging gauges/FMS's run outside the SIM

to free up VAS and help make the SIM smoother...   ?????

Any Ideas ???

The Garmin trainer program (1 or 2 copies) runs outside of FSX/P3D,

however the GTN650/750 gauge runs inside FSX/P3D and it's the one that launches the Garmin trainer(s) in the background.

You save VAS because the Garmin trainer is a full blown app, has its own address space and runs in a different thread, the gauge you see communicates IPC, with the trainer via dll's, interfaces, SM, memory mapped files, sockets, remoting, etc.

(I don't know what they are using, but Your question made me curious :)

I believe it does not need or uses SimmConnect.

I also believe some devs are doing that with their own in-house developments.
