Installing Tongass Fjords X Prepar3D v3 & v4

An Alternative way to install Tongass Fjords X for Prepar3D ..................

The Video below is a Tutorial to Install Tongass Fjords X,  This is slightly different from the first Guide I done which you will find on page one. 

 

In this Tutorial I Manually create an FSX Path in my Registry Editor and point it to my Prepar3D location, by doing this the Tongass Installer will Install all the required Tongass files to the correct locations in my Core Prepar3D folder.

I also move the Terrain.cfg file from the ProgramData location and into my Core Prepar3D folder for the Install process only,  by doing this the Tongass Installer will configure the terrain.cfg file. After the Install has completed I then move it back to the ProgramData location.

I also reference Hints, Tips and troubleshooting at the end of the Video which you will find below

1)  Link to the Updated AI Simobjects for Prepar3D v4 users

Note:  This is not required for Prepar3D v2 or v3 Users 

After installing Tongass Fjords X into Prepar3D v4,  in order to avoid random CTDs (Crash to Desktop) with Incompatible AI Simobjects you should immediately update these by following the Instructions in the link below.

2)  Another way to Install Tongass Fjords X

You will find the Original guide to install Tongass Fjords X on page 1.   There are two main differences between the 2 Tutorials

The Original Guide below does Not require editing of the Registry Editor and does Not require you to move the terrain.cfg file to ProgramData.

If you use the Guide below you will need to Move the required Tongass files over to the correct locations in your core Prepar3D Install folder.

You will also need to Manually edit the terrain.cfg file to add the 40 Tongass entries

I have explained both processes and Included Images and 1 Video to help you along

3)  The terrain.cfg file location

The terrain.cfg file is located below. 

Local Disk (C:) ► ProgramData ► Lockheed Martin ► Prepar3D  -  terrain.cfg

For an Image of the terrain.cfg file  Click here 

To locate this file Insure you Tick the Box for  Show Hidden Files, folders and drives in File Explorer Options,   Click here for Image.

Also, A  quick way of locating this file is to Copy the TEX below and Paste it into your Windows Search bar and click on the result,  this will bring you directly to the location

4)  Manually Editing the terrain.cfg file  (Adding the 40 Tongass entries)

If you are using the Original guide to install Tongass you will need to Manually add the 40 Tongass Entries to your terrain.cfg file 

You will need to 2 things for this Tutorial..............

I)   The 40 Tongass entries for the terrain.cfg file.  You will find them at the bottom of this page 

II)  The location of the terrain.cfg file.   Please see INDEX 3)

NOTE:  The first minute of the video I explain to you how the [Texture]  numbers are finally counted at the Top of the terrain.cfg file   (DefaultTextureCount)

5)  Using FSX Registry Utility Tool to create the Fake FSX Path to Prepar3D  

In the Video I show you the steps to Manually Create a Fake FSX Path to Prepar3D,  You can also use a Utility Tool to Achieve this.

The Utility is called the  "FSX Registry Utility"  This tool will automatically create this entry for you with only a couple of steps

6) Diverting your current FSX Install Path to Prepar3D (Registry Editor)

If you have FSX Installed You can Temporarily Divert your Current FSX Install path in the Registry Editor and point it to your Prepar3D Install location for the duration of the Install process only.

This is the same process as the Video BUT Insure you Reverse the change back again after the Tongass Install has Completed

7)  Orbx FTX Central will Not launch now after this Tutorial 

If Orbx FTX Central will not launch now after this Tutorial,  More then likely the terrain.cfg file has become corrupt.

The terrain.cfg file is a generated file,  Meaning we can Delete this file and Prepar3D will generate a Default file when Launched next.  Then we will need to Manually add the 40 Tongass entries into the terrain.cfg file.

Follow the steps In this order to resolve this 

I)  Delete  the terrain.cfg file.   Please see  INDEX 3)  for the location of the terrain.cfg file 

II)  Launch Prepar3D to Scenario Screen  (First screen)  Then CLOSE Prepar3D down.   The terrain.cfg file will generate again as default 

III)  Launch the FTX Central Control Panel and wait about 20 seconds,  This will add the Orbx entries back to your terrain.cfg file

IV)  Close FTX Central

V)   Then follow the Video link below to Manually add the 40 Tongass entries into the terrain.cfg file
