I had bought a version of Active Sky Next a while back but it's currently not installed on my present machine.

 

The discounted/upgrade registered at Simmarket. Does ASN need to be installed on my machine in order to 'update' it or will the code work in the trial version I'm currently using?

No it  doesnt  need  to be installed, but you need  the serial number when you upgrade since it will ask you the serial number of  your asn purchase when upgrading. if you had asn installed it will do it for you without  you entering  it  manually.  To use  the trial version  you need to download  as16  than  go to the hifi main page  download  section and  request a trial version serial key  for your  sim which will last 7 days
