Hong Kong 2004

Featured Replies

Hey all, I have a question. I have the CD Rom version of HK2004 from Flightsoft. I choose to install into FS 2004 and never really noticed until this install the issue I am having. . . which is . . . I am seeing buildings in the water, and bridges badly misplaced. Other than FSgenesis terrain mesh, I see no reason why i should be having this issue. Since HK2k4 obviously excludes (or is supposed to?) all surrounding scenery, I am confused as to why this is happening. I knwo it is not an issue with FSGenesis as it only does elevation data, not coastlines. I look closely at the misplaced buildings and I honestly can't tell if they are HK2k4 or FS9 autogen. If they are FS9 Autogen, what files would I have to deactivate to kill them off? I have default autogen completely off and have even deleted the default autogen file from the FS9/autogen folder. If needed I can post screenshots here, which I will go snap now as I wait for someone to read this. Since Flightsoft has no forum I am hoping someone here will have an answer.Chris

Okay, all, I took those screenshots. And yes I DID post this thread seperate because no one has had this issue that I can see. I did a search a lots of posts on the "mesh" (or lack thereof) and qualities of textures and such, as well as flashing textures issues, but not a single post could I find where anyone had misplaced or additional buildings . . . so my question is ##### am I doing wrong???Here are a few screenshots I took:On a POSITIVE note the available freeware VHHH scenery works wonderfully with the addon :-)http://guildofdarkhaven.org/flying/images/...HK2004/HK01.jpgAfter taking off from VHHH, these two bridges come up and one looks rather disconnected from the road it is supposed to be going to and another goes into the water . . . they also cross over each other! Is one a default FS9 bridge? Also note the buildongs in the water here.http://guildofdarkhaven.org/flying/images/...HK2004/HK02.jpgSoooo . . . was Hong Kong hit by a Tsunami here or what?http://guildofdarkhaven.org/flying/images/...HK2004/HK03.jpgNothing wrong in this next shot. I had to not that at least the final approach looked great from my Cessna. Apparently the Tsunami didnt hit Kai Tak . . . thank the gods.http://guildofdarkhaven.org/flying/images/...HK2004/HK04.jpgIf anyone can tell me the names of the Default FS9 BGLs I need to remive to clear this up, I'd appreciate it. I know these are default buildings because on close inspection they are MUCH different from the HK2k4 buildings.

It looks like the exclude isn't working. You might want to check the scenery.cfg file and see if the exclude entry is actually there.Doug

Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. Klaatu barada nickto.

This is exactly how the entry appears in my scenery.cfg:[Area.253]Title=HK2004Local=SCENERYHK2004Layer=249Active=TRUERequired=FALSEExclude=N22 35,E113 35 55,N21,E115,allRemote=Looks like there is an exclude there. Am I missing something?

Ooookeeeee . . . after I posted this I got to thinking . . . that exclude looked REALLY hort . . . like there are numbers missing.I double checked my install by reinstalling off the CD-ROM . . . and the same entry went in.I did a comparison of all the exclude switches in my scenery CFG file . . . check this out:Exclude=N32 55 50 49,W97 05 04 44,N32 51 46 06,W96 58 57 71,objects,vorsExclude=N38 59 08 27,W77 30 19 13,N38 54 46 73,W77 25 36 20,allExclude=N36 06 03,W115 10 22,N36 04 08,W115 07 02,allExclude=N33 26 40,W112 02 10,N33 25 21,W111 58 55,objectsExclude=N41 08 40,E16 44 26 44,N41 07 50 75,E16 48 00,allExclude=N41 52 30,E12 00 00,N41 42 00,E12 27 30,allExclude=N22 35,E113 35 55,N21,E115,allThe BOTTOM exclude is my HK2004 scenery. It is MUCH shorter than all the other excludes. Anyone have different entreies for their HK2004 scenery? If not would anyone mind pasting their exclude here if it works for them?

Well, all, I am almost embarrassed to say that I did not put two and two together and place the issue where it really was.I have the great freeware VHHH scenery by Thomas Kwong, and it apparently adds all those extra buildings and bridges, etc. all over the place. I must thus attempt to email him and see if he is still around so I can find what BGL files in HIS add-on I need to rename LOL.If anyone else knows what BGL's in that file are the bridges and such before he replies, I'd love to know. I found this by deactivating the airport entirely in my scenery options. Once I deactivated VHHH, all the extra "Tsunami victims" disappeared. LOL.

After many months of the SAME problem, I did a home-made exclude AND threw in a Flatten (just for the helll of it) and the problem went away.try mine - it covers a much larger area than the one supplied with the scenery.Flatten.0=13,N22 40.15,E113 57.44,N22 40.15,E114 36.06,N21 59.65,E114 36.06,N21 59.65,E113 57.44Exclude=N22 40.15,E113 57.44,N21 59.65,E114 36.06,all

Kill I shakll try that as well to se if that kills off the flashing. I got the buioldings issue fixed, but still have flashing water LOL.

Yeah it's complex. I solved both issues in one hit. I can't quite remember if I did anything other than make the exclude and flatten, but the flashing textures on the water are gone, plus the coasts are fine now, plus there's no double Tsing Ma Bridge any more. Happy days. Now I don't mess with it!

There may be some other issues at work here with your set-ups; I had the HK 2004 scenery and Thomas Kwongs' freeware VHHH installed and had no erroneous buildings or bridges, nor flashing water! I no longer have the HK 2004 installed - I hate that water texture that is needlessly used, and the 'mesh' polys are terrible!! The buildings, signs, Kai Tak and overall atmosphere is good, but I just cannot face flying around that area to suddenly be confronted by that dreadfully mismatched water!! What on Earth were they thinking of??!! The FlightSoft rendition of VHHH is a bit ragged too, so Thomas's superb version was quickly installed! No conflicting buildings or bridges though.....

Not sure what version of the VHHH you had installed then. When installed the scenery renders a copy of the bridge and a unch of autogen in the surroundign areas. That's nly if you have HK2K4 installed. I found the answer though . . . Rename rs.bglships.bglExcl_bridge.bglExcl_tungchung.bgl to rs.xxxships.xxxExcl_bridge.xxxExcl_tungchung.xxxThat fixed the issue. The top two are the buildings and ships and the bottom two were excludes that knocked out pieces of the HK2K4 scenery. Once renamed, all conflicts went away :-)
