Runway Marker Lights

Featured Replies

Hi all.  Regarding the Outer, Middle and Inner runway lights on the instrument console, when do they actually work?  I have the MKR button engaged on the radio stack but the lights never seem to light.  Do I need to do something additional?  Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave, they'll only light up when you pass over a marker on final approach to an airport equipped with marker beacons. If you zoom in to KSEA airport on the FS2004 flightplan map you'll see them at around 1 mile, 5 miles and 10 miles from the runway.

I know that, but my lights never seem to come on, even during an ILS approach and the MKR button engaged.

Here's how it's done:

Take off from KSEA Rwy 34R, fly runway heading, note the two markers IM and MM here:

The IM marker light is hardly visible in daytime, it DID light up, but for clarity I continued over the MM marker:

Note that I didn't have the audio MKR switched on - maybe this plays a sound instead of switching the light on?

As mentioned above, are you sure the runway you are approaching actually had marker beacons? They are increasingly being phased out, particularly as these days there is almost always a DME co-located with the ILS to provide range information.
