MDMAX MD-80 oppinion wanted...

Featured Replies

I am seriously considering buying the MdMax md-80 add-on for fs9. I use LevelD767 and Feelthere's ERJ145. I am also a PS1.3 user :-)What atracts me the most in the mdmax offer is the accuracy of the systems, but I am curious regarding one of the features announced as accurate: AUTOLAND.How does autoland work in the MDMAX MD-80? Have you taken it to the limits in terms of published crosswind components? And the pitch modes of the AFCS? Oppinions appreciated!

Hi,I bought it when it was released about a year ago, and consider it truly to be the most worse add-on I ever bought.Bug-ridden, expensive, incomplete, FS98 panel graphics, no liveries, very bad support. There has been released a patch a few months ago, but I didn't bother to install it anymore. So perhaps the current version is better.Be advised: This is my opinion, others may and will disagree

Egbert, thx for your reply. I used to not distinguish between this one and MadDog MD-80 from LAGO, which I have also seen credited very bad in this and other forums...So this MDMAX (from www.mdsuper80.com) is also that bad?

Thx Jim!Is this the Eaglesoft one?I am confused... As far as I can count there are now four different commercial products.1) I bought Iron Knuckles from Flight1 some two years ago. I believe there was an update for fs9, but it was a fs2002 add-on...2) There's LAGO's Maddog. Almost everything I read about it in various forums is rather negative...3) There's this MDMAX MD-80. Expensive but apparently rather complete. The fact that it doesn't include a VC is no problem for me - I never use VCs...4) There's Eaglesoft FlightDeck MD-80...... NOW there is yet another one? The one you bought is apparently yeat another md-80, yes?

I purchased the Lago Maddog, and I also purchased MDMAX, when it was first released, I did not purchase any of the updates for Mdmax as I don't use Mdmax. After the updates Lago made to the Lago Maddog, I really like it. I think it works great at least for me. I don't use autoland so I can't comment on how well it performs. But for me it provides a feeling of being there much more than does the Mdmax. I'm not saying the Mdmax product is a bad product, I just prefer the lago offering over the Mdmax offering. As for the Flight 1 Super 80, I have that as well, and I like it too. But its insturment panel is modeled after a different era (late 70's early 80's) than the lago or mdmax which is a bit more modern. Good luck in making your decision.

Just so you know I bought the MDMAX and find it a great add-on,there are many liveries for it through Jet Aircraft. The latest patch adds a fmc to the sim and adds more items to the sim also. This is not a jump in and fly plane,I put it on the same level as PS1.3.You will need to read and reread the manual btw which is a great manual for a sim.The support is also very good and any problems I had were addressed very quickly.I will keep this on for a very long time. I agree with Jeff ... MDMax is an excellent addon, very detailed, well supported and very well documented. Have not tried autoland, but ILS captures very crisply. With the new FMC, overall update, and addition of the JCA model and all their great liveries ... it is a great product. Sorry to hears Egbert's (whose opinion I always respect) comments ... I feel similarly about the Lago Maddog in its 1.51 release. It is a very well done piece of software, finally fixed up ... supported obviously with updates but no forum presence from the developer for many months.F1 has entered the fray with Espen Oijordsbakken's very excellent Super80 ... reflecting the earlier (non-FMS) incarnation of the airframe ... with analog gauges, OMS and PMS vs the EFIS/Digital implementation of MDMax and Lago ... American still flies 160+ versions of the F1 implementation with OMS/PMS. Espen has done an excellent job with the MD80 and provides excellent support. I was a release tester for this aircraft, and I can say it does a very smooth autoland but I can't say what the x-wind component was ... if any.If you are a DC9-80 lover as I am, you will have all three as I do ... along with the excellent DC-9 20/40 by Stellan Hilmersby. For many years there has only been Stellan's DC-9 ... now the MD-80 cup "runneth over" ...and we have the 3 above ... There is a new MD80 by Eaglesoft and Lonnie Payne.. with multiple panels ranging from analog thru digital .. I have not bought it yet.So, splurge ...hahahaha ... buy the three described above and support the developers ... you'll not regret it.Regards,Paul BenoitKSAN

Well, thank you all for your support! I think I made my mind and will go for the MDMAX first. The LAGO airplane will be pretty much the same in terms of systems/instrument panel, probably less detailed in terms of systems complexity, so, for the time being, I will pass on that one...
