OT, all you SP2 none takers, better switch off your auto-update service

Featured Replies

I don't see what the big deal is. SP2 and associated updates mostly plug security holes. MS doesn't force you to do anything, but the reason that they would like us to use the auto-update feature is because so many novice computer users would never bother otherwise, and it is through them that viruses proliferate. On some of my machines, I turned off the auto-update, but that is mostly because these computers are rarely connected to the interent anyway, and I still check for updates every month or so. If anyone else is doing the same, fine, but I hope that you would at least download the security fixes once in awhile. Also, the only problems that I have personally seen with upgrading to SP2 were with some collegues of mine who were using pirated versions (at home, we still use Windows 2000 at work) which stopped working with SP2. This thread has been extremely enlightening.- Martin
