February 24, 200620 yr We now have a number of add-on products that offer improved ground textures -- and naturally all claim to make FS2004 come alive for the true to life experience!Has anyone seen a 'critical' comparison of these products -- one that impartially evaluates what is on offer? After all, there is no point in owning more than one such add-on, and it's always good to spend one's dollar on what seems best.Ron
February 24, 200620 yr I bet any such comparison would be highly subjective, you would need to hear from quite a few people to make any sense out of it. BEV has phenomenal number of screenshots available for inspection on their website - GE has very few. I hope GE folks can expand on their screenshots offering and then everyone can make up their own mind.Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg Michael J.

Choice is what these texture makers offer, not competition. Inevitably personal preference and computer hardware, software and setup come into it. Why would you need a combative assessment, and how could anyone possibly decide which one was `best` for YOU? Depends on rig, sim, time of day, location, expectation and a complete list of other factors. Try them all, keep the ones you like!Allcott
February 25, 200620 yr I feel that it also depends on what you know for real about the area you fly in the most. See my comments on GE VS BEVhttp://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=304962&page=-dave
February 25, 200620 yr i wonder how they can charge such a high price for just a few general ground textures in GE 2006. was was tempted to buy it, but i wont pay more than 10-15 usd for such an add-on. what do you think ? is the GE 2006 price too high ?regards, tom.
February 25, 200620 yr Nope, no way. You are getting more than just a few general ground textures. You are getting 5 seasons worth of textures, world wide coverage, and a bunch more, all in one package. Sometimes people just don't realize what is behind some of these products. You can compare to BEV at 12 a pop, per season, per geographic area, and then we'll see. Yes, I know every 5th package is free. So the USA alone will be 48. Will you be purchasing that? I think the worldwide coverage will come to 208. Will you be purchasing that?Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg http://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg
February 25, 200620 yr I have both FSScene and GE. I believe that GE was quite an improvement. It's all in the eye.
February 25, 200620 yr Everything is to high if you ask me.I dare not add them up but Im sure I have around $500 invested. But thats my decision and still cheaper than a few dates. As far as pricing for textures. I always though Fsscene was obscene. What were they like $25 per season for one area? The world would have been a couple hundred? GE 2006 is putting a hurting on BEV and is killing Fsscene.I doubt I will buy cause I already invested $50 in BEV and all I fly is the US. Besides, retreading FS9 is getting old. and expensive.

When it comes to such labor intensive products like textures I look at it from the effort(man hours) - coverage - price perspective. If you have say 2 people working on "N" permutations of seasons/continents and spending M number of hours, what happens when another team does less than N permuations in the same number of hours?. I strongly believe that unless there is some gross difference in human talent (it is very rare) you can have dilution of quality, the old classic quality-versus-quantity tradeoff. Ultimately I think we are being charged proportionally to the expanded number of man-hours regardless how many continents/seasons we are getting. Just my $0.02.Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg Michael J.
February 26, 200620 yr why do such nice add-ons like the new realair planes, GE, and the carenado 206 appear now ?! ;) i mean in holydays fsX will come and im sure ill buy it, but somehow in last months so many nice "must-have"'s are released so that my hobby cash flow is stagnating. i really hope that at least some of the newer products will work on fsX and even look good compared to the new high detailed aircraft models, world textures and weather system.i didnt know about the prices of this other environment tool (208$ for full coverage). ive used this freeware reality enhancement package 1.2 that was released a while ago and didnt like it for the many visual bugs it produced.regards, tom.
February 26, 200620 yr Hi,Fair enough! If you use FS04 a few times a week over the next year I would say that you would get your worth out of GE.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg http://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg
