March 1, 200620 yr Hi folks!Just to let you know: I've just uploaded Einar Aarvik's post-LOD10 Nepal scenery files, on his behalf, which includes a new airport at Taplejung. Should be in the library soon.I threw in some afcad files for Everest and K2 and a couple of glacier strips, which you'll likely find a bit unrealistic in that they are at about FL 210, hehe. Anyway, great for trying some alternative aircraft, eg. skis or even birds! Or, for that lightweight Super Cub with the insane pilot.Anyway, the AFCAD files will give you NDB's and a chance to include the peaks in a MSFS flightplan, which is nice. Also, I uploaded a Sangri-La repaint for Dantes Twotter, so you have a new Nepal combo.Enjoy, people, and thanks Aarvik and Sandmann/Ferranti for your files.-dasher7
March 2, 200620 yr Commercial Member Hi Halfdan, many thanks to you and Einar for providing updated/extended versions of those airfields and a repaint to boot. Spectacular as the Himalayas are the default airfields are rather boring so your add-ons are a perfect compliment to a high-definition terrain mesh.Cheers, HolgerP.S.: here are the direct links:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...scen&DLID=82084http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...scen&DLID=60547http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...acrp&DLID=82086
March 3, 200620 yr Hi HolgerJust curious of your opinion on this, if you have one, anyway: What single-engine GA airplanes would you recommend for this kind of altitude flying, and just how high is it realistic to go with/without bottled oxygene?Did eg Don Sheldon ever land higher than about 11.000 feet in his Super Cub? (Which would only just get him to the airfield of Syangboche in Nepal, not farther into the ranges.)Thanks,Dasher7Appetizer: Here's one (of many!) interesting sites on the history of mountain aviation, with audio clips:http://uaf-db.uaf.edu/jukebox/DENALI/html/jiok.htm
March 3, 200620 yr :-) Dasher 7: I realize your post was directed to Holger but last nite after installing those airports and Mt Everest landing site I attempted to fly a Bell 412 from VNXA to the top of Mt. Everest but was only to make it to the saddle area around 25,400 feet. I might have reached the top but my fuel was running out so returned to base. I can't remember the type of helicopter that made it in real life a while ago.I would recommend Holger's mesh with Einar and Halfdan's scenery. Gary
March 7, 200620 yr Hi GarryNahh, don't worry, it was meant as a general question ;)Anyway, it was the incredible Ecureil 350 B3 that made the unholy ascent and landing. What a shame! The machines are everywhere, these days. Here you go: http://www.everestnews.com/stories2005/eve...ter05272005.htmFantastic video, really.. We even have the chopper in the library, albeit not the exact paint.I'm happy that you like the files, it sure is a beautyful area. Likewise, K2 is just beautyful and the approach from the south is worth every bit downloaded. -dasher7
