March 5, 200620 yr BumpStill no luck - have tried rebuilding FS9.cfg; using default aircraft and airfields etc etc yet still after several minutes flying, I lose all labels except "airline and flight number". Whatever is doing it is changing the FS9.cfg during the flight by putting a 0 against those labels I had originally selected.Any ideas???John R
March 5, 200620 yr Hi John, consider these three facts:1. I have never had this happen.2. I don't use FSUIPC to display any AI traffic lables.3. FSUIPC can make changes to FS9 config file variables.I would therefore suggest that you turn off whatever feature of FSUIPC displays thase additional labels and see if that fixes the problem. R-
March 5, 200620 yr Author Moderator Hi John,Do you have 'Flight' selected in FSUIPC / Miscellaneous? That is the required setting for labels to be displayed correctly I believe.Personally I have now turned this option off. Ask yourself how realistic it is to see aircraft flying around with huge banners displaying type, altitude etc. It's far more realistic with labels off and if you fly an aircraft with TCAS that should be sufficient to warn you of nearby aircraft.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). March 6, 200620 yr RayMany thanks for the info. I have "flight" selected but I am now sure that this is nothing to do with FSUIPC. Also, agree that its more realistic with labels off, although they do perhaps give you a more realistic feel for SA in view of the limitations of FS9 ATC.I am interested because anything that changes the FS9.cfg without warning raises a question mark. Also, I had not realised that, even without FSUIPC installed, the default FS9.cfg has these several additional labels beyond those shown in the Settings - Traffic dialogue box. Further, if you select one of these labels through the FS9.cfg, it is still not shown in the Settings - Traffic box. But I have seen several screen shots here on AVSIM where the "Airline and Flight Number" label had been actioned.Perhaps, these entries in the FS9.cfg are for some other reason [perhaps to support external TCAS programmes]. Pity we have not got an MS run forum where we could ask.John Rooum
March 6, 200620 yr Author Moderator Hi John,<>I agree. The extra settings for Ai aircraft are not available via the menu in FS9. You can download the FS Traffic Toolbox from Microsoft which gives you 13 options with Ai aircraft. Visit this site and further down the screen you'll see a link to Traffic Toolbox. Install that and a new option - Tools... Traffic Toolbox becomes available in FS9. www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/fs2004_downloads_sdk.aspAfter installing this utility it may help give you control over Ai settings. It also allows you to zap individual Ai aircraft should they block your taxiway :-)If you find the default ATC program limited why not try Radar Contact? This has no equals and emulates the real world procedures both in FAA airspace (US) and non-FAA (rest of the world). Click the link in my signature for more info. An in-depth review was recently published on AvSim.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). March 6, 200620 yr Ray,Very many thanks for the info.I have picked up the Traffic Toolbox - should be interesting to see how things are supposed to work. But Radar Contact certainly seems the answer for me - particularly as I see several Brits as beta testers. So I assume that we will have some decent Brit ATC whilst flying in Europe? ALso glad to see I can run it on a second support system through Wide FS. Order will be in shortly.John R
March 6, 200620 yr Author Moderator Hi John,There are 7 British controllers in RC4 plus an Italian, a Dane, an Aussie and of course several of our colonial friends from across the pond ;-) You also have several British pilot voices to choose from. European style ATC procedures are in operation across Europe and all areas outside of FAA airspace. You'll love it :-)Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England).
