Cancelling GPS Flight Plan...

Featured Replies

Hello All,Starting a flight from Montevideo to Rio, I just thought to find out how far Rio was and clicked the Identifier into the GPS, and then found I couldn't cancel it without starting the flight again. That doesn't seem right and I'm probably missing something, but holding the 'clear' button didn't do anything. Advice appreciated! Thought I was beginning to get a handle on the GPS as well! Thanks, Andy.

If you are using the default GPS you can only change the flight plan in the GPS through the FS Flight planner. If you have a flight plan in the GPS and you use the Direct button to enter a identifier, that replaces your previous plan. Pressing the CLEAR button will cycle through the available symbols shown on the GPS screen to declutter the look. Pressing and holding the CLEAR button will take you to the default NAV page. If you have the RXP GPS units you can enter flight plans in the GPS as you fly. Keep in mind that changing the flight plan in the GPS does not change your flight plan that FS ATC is going by.Bud

Thanks Bud,I was hoping to just use it for a minute! as if I was the navigator looking at a map and then go back to the empty screen that just shows your ground speed. Aaah well, back to the drawing board.>>>> Keep in mind that changing the flight plan in the GPS does not change your flight plan that FS ATC is going by.<<<< What I do sometimes is create a flight plan with NDBs and VORs which I print out and so fly without the pink line and this business with the GPS was an extension of this idea!!Thank you for the advice,Andy.

Roger that. By the way if you are already in flight and you happen to change the GPS flight plan as you have, you don't have to restart the whole flight, just reload the flight plan through the flight planner. Also, you may want to give the RXP GPS a try, it is alot more realistic and flexible. You can have 20 stored flight plans to call up. You can change them or create a new one on the go.Bud

If you switch to "Direct To" in the FS2004 GPS, how do you get yourself positioned at your current location when you switch back to the original FP?Dave Hinson

Thanks for the quick reply, Bill. Just haven't taken enough time myself working with GPS to figure this one out.Dave Hinson

Hi Bill,I am sure that I have seen the screen of the default gps blank when I am flying; it just shows the ground speed and the terrain below you, but all the other windows are empty. Do you know how to get it to that state? As I find now I might be flying in south America but in the gps is a flight plan for Montana and it shows me 5632 miles from my destination, which I find annoying! I can change that by inputting another flight plan, but I just want it blank:-hmmm Andy.

Sounds like whenever you saved the flight you are starting with you had a flight plan loaded into the GPS. I do not know of any way within the sim to blank it like you want, only changing it to a Direct To destination or loading another flight plan. You can open the flight plan file located in My DocumentsFlight Simulator Files with Notepad and delete the section GPS_engine and ATC_RequestedFlightPlan, save the file then reload the flight.Alternately, you can load the default flight and set eveerything up from there (A/C, location etc) then save that flight and you should have a clear GPS.Bud

Hello there,Bud,Thank you very much for the info on that! >>>>>delete the section GPS_engine and ATC_RequestedFlightPlan, save the file then reload the flight.<<<<

Well real GPS's work a little better than the default FS one. I use the RXP units myself which alleviates all the problems :)Bud

Hi,I am beginning to create flights for the Connie, DC-6 and DC-4 which I print out first- these just show NDBs on the way and then don't load them but can fly them off the 'paper' and the gps stays blank with your helpful tip!, but if I want to cheat the gps will show me the nearest VOR, NDB etc as if the navigator had woken up and was doing his job. It's getting really interesting trying to get about this way.Andy.
