How to create landclass

Featured Replies

Hi guys,I am trying to do a trip into the complex world of scenery design. I am happy that we have some new programs that allow us to create them making our lives easier. Nonetheless I don't think EZ Scenery, Rwy 12 and others will help me with landclass. The question is simple: Is there any tutorial available to create landclass? Thanks.Leo

I have a program called Landclass Assistant--version 1.4 is here in the library. Russ Dirks has an Excel based landclass editor as well, and there's a third tool I believe that's out there. Russ's program and mine share an interface which Russ wrote, which basically allows you to slew over an area in MSFS and "mark" tiles where you want to update the landclass. You can't actually see the results until you generate the bgl and restart the sim, but that's about as visual as it gets.-John

Hi there,if you have a pretty powerful system then you should consider Jim Keir's version 2 of his LWMViewer: http://www.jimkeir.co.uk/FlightSim/LWMViewer2.htmlThere's an excellent tutorial over at the VOZ website that explains how to add land class: http://vistaoz.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=767Personally, I use Ground2K4 with a real- or false-color satellite image as a background, which allows me to provide the best possible match to each sq km (or so) section of land based on what is actually there. There are a couple of ready-made background bitmaps available in the file library ready for use (search for "Holger Sandmann"), which you can check out to decide on an approach you prefer. We definitely could use more and more accurate land class files; high-quality mesh, roads, rivers, and ground textures are all necessary but it's really the accurate land class that makes an area fully recognizable, IMO.Cheers, Holger

Hello Leo,As it happens, there is a tutorial in the Avsim library that explains the basic concepts and gives step-by-step instructions for making land class using both John Cillis' Landclass Assistant and Russel Dirk's EZ-Lanclass. Please search for simple_instructions_for_modifying_land_class.zip.Best regards.Luis

I happen to like using SBuilder - available here plus you'll need an update at www.PTSim.com to upgrade it to v2.05 rev 6. You can quickly create Google Earth background maps at http://www.ptsim.com/sbuilder/gmaps.asp. It's interface is a little weird at first, but once you get used to it, you can do just about anythine having to do with scenery design, including VTP/LWM Polygons/excludes, object layout, Landclass. and photo textures as well as other things. It's important to install it properly.1. Install sb205.zip2. Be sure to download and install scasm according to the directions - http://www.scasm.de/3. Start the program and run through the initial startup procedure.4. Install sb205objects.zip and start and run the program5. Download and install http://www.ptsim.com/downloads/sb205rev06.zipYou should be all set.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com/FC_StartJava.html] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)
