Flight Dynamics Swap?

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, Hope all is well with everybody. I had a thought..If I wanted to fly for example, the PMDG 737NG but wanted to use the flight dynamics of another Devs 737, what file is used to accomplish this? Is it the aircraft config entries itself, or the airfile config that gets replaced. And will it work without causing crashes? I just wanted to try an experiment. Thanks for your help.

It would require both the .air and aircraft.cfg file. Be advised though that some gauges are coded around a known set of flight dynamics. A complex aircraft like PMDG's may not work as intended if you change the FDE, so back up, back up, back up.... before making any changes.-John

Hey John, Thanks for your reply. I tried just the airfile alone from another 737 with the PMDG and found that the thrust on takeoff was alot less than normal with the throttles maxed. I could not get N1 above 68%,however everything else was fine. I think that might be because I did not copy the info needed from the aircraft config from that other AC? I did backup. I learned my lesson long ago about that. My main goal here is to give the PMDG the same feel as the other model. I love the PMDG, however the plane feels too sensitive around turns on the ground and in the air. I will experiment some more once I get more info. Thanks again.

Jeff, there are goodness knows how many variables in the air file alone and swapping files around is bound to upset things. It might be better to say what it is that you think needs changing and ask how to acheive this.On a seperate note, you should never be using max throttle;-)Dreamfleet Project ManagerGreatest Airliners - DC-8Greatest Airliners - 727 Whisperjethttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...BANNER_PAUL.jpg

Paul's advice is good...Most handling can be updated via the aircraft.cfg... The effectiveness variables in the flight_tuning section, plus your MOI entries, can go a long way towards changing handling to suit your needs. This way, you can keep the aircraft.cfg and .air file engine, drag and other parameters as the developer intended and in that sense keep the gauges and FDE in synch, so to speak.I almost always have to adjust handling, and not because developers don't know what they're doing--they do. But almost everyone has adjusted MSFS's global sensitivities and almost everyone has a different controller, calibrated to their tastes. Using the tuning section and MOI section on an aircraft by aircraft basis helps me compensate for my own global MSFS adjustments. -John

Hello allIn the flight_tuning section what are the maximum and minimum values? How do they relate to 1.0 and do minus numbers have an effect .Cheers James

Hi Paul and John, Thanks again for your input. OK, what I am trying to do is get a heavier feel to the PMDG. On the ground, she turns to easy as compared to the Ariane 737. (Not to start a war)I am using the Ariane for an example as I like the feel it has. The PMDG In the air, banking is way to easy as compared to the Ariane. I like the heavier, more stable feel. What numbers would you recommend changing to accomplish this? Thanks again for your help. I hope this thread stays on track, as I was hesitant mentioning the other AC, but this may be the only way so you can help me better.

you may want a heavier more stable feel, but that is not how they are in real life.

Hey Alex. Thank you for your input. And thank you for your reply in my other thread also. I always liked the way the Ariane felt better for some reason. I could be way off as to which is more realistic. Mr.Randazzo of PMDG is a real-life pilot, so the PMDG most likely has more realistic dynamics to her. I just wanted to experiment with the numbers anyway. Have a great night Alex.

you could try changing the sim= line in the pmdg aircraft.cfg file to the same name as the araine .air file and copy said araine airfile into the pmdg directory to give that a try.
