Hi all:

I am in a quandary -- currently have a R9 270X with only 2 Gb of RAM. Unfortunately, the card is now running at 100% usage of the GPU and anywhere from 90-100% of the RAM which I am sure is affecting performance. I am a long time AMD (ex ATI) user but if it is time to look at jumping ship, I could.

I have been looking at the Vega 56, the new GTX 1070ti and the Nvidia 1080. But I haven't seen any flight sim reviews on the Vega performance. Any insight one could provide would be highly appreciated! Please don't start a AMD vs Nvidia flame war.

Also, I am using https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html to compare performance. Unfortunately no review sites include P3D for benchmark testing. Anybody have a suggestion as to which game (yes I know P3D is not a game) would be a good analog to P3D performance? I am running a 40" Toshiba 1080P TV as a monitor.

The current price difference between a Vega 56 and 1070ti is about $40. The 1080 is about $100 more and the 1080ti is over $300 more and I am not sure if the performance increase is worth it. Any rumors as to when Volta cards will be released? Anybody have a used card to sell to tide me over to the next gen cards?

Thanks for any insights!

Whilst it's not specifically for flight sims, over at Guru3D they have a GPU Shootout table which they update after each new review which gives a good idea of the comparative performance of most popular graphics cards: https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/asus_geforce_gtx_1070_ti_strix_gaming_review,45.html

I'm very interested in seeing if the Vega FE 16 gb (of HBM2) would have an appreciable effect in a 64 bit fs platform, ie p3dv4.  Is anyone else interested in seeing the results?  Not sure what I could sell it on for afterwards, but I could pick one up for significantly below retail if the community is interested in seeing the results.

I sure would. Be interested in the Vega 56 also. Concerned about the power/heat issues with the Vega 64.
