April 19, 200620 yr Is there any way to add missing ATC a/c call-signs without installing EditVoicePack? I used to use it, but when I installed the latest version about a year back it immediately made such a mess of my FS9 setup that I finally had to wipe my partition and start again. Doubtless I was unlucky (all I did was run the setup though!), but I am understandably very reluctant to install it again, especially as I only ever used it once in a blue moon.Sure, no doubt it's a great bit of software, but it does seem like installing a sledgehammer to crack a nut in my case. If anyone knows another way of adding missing designated airline call-signs to the .gvp files, I'd be glad to hear of it. Thanks.Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)

There is no alternative, but feel free to contact me if you need assistence on programming a simpler version. Be prepared to spend a lot of time just ending up realizing that you simply did not understand the size of the "nut".
April 19, 200620 yr Author Hi. I was smart - troubleshooting section didn't help I'm afraid (as far as I recall - it was several months back). Not knocking the product by the way - I said it was a great tool in the original post, and that I was just unlucky I dare say; but I consider myself pretty 'PC savvy' so don't think I did anything stupid!May give it another try - I have an Acronis image, just in case. Would it really be possible to downsize the installation in some way, as you imply, since I only really ever need to add missing call signs (which stick out like a sore thumb in ATC!). I know EditVoicePack is capable of much more. Thanks,Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
April 19, 200620 yr >Hi. I was smart - troubleshooting section didn't help I'm>afraid (as far as I recall - it was several months back). It will work. There is no way it can't work as it will 100% restore the files modified by EditVoicepack. Some people miss the part about deleting some files though.>>Not knocking the product by the way - I said it was a great>tool in the original post, and that I was just unlucky I dare>say; but I consider myself pretty 'PC savvy' so don't think I>did anything stupid! It happens on some systems, and it is annoying. I will not try to fix it anytime soon as I am not working on EditVoicepack now, nor have I been working on it since 3.1 was released. I have several projects running so I have learned my lesson not to switch to and from projects. EditVoicepack is on hold until it becomes the primary project again. This could happen tonight, or it might never happen. Who knows :)>>May give it another try - I have an Acronis image, just in>case. I know EditVoicePack is capable of much more.I simply can't see what I could possible remove that would warrent creating two versions? Of course I could create a version that was unable to edit modifications, but there simply wouldn't be any benefit from this - it would just take longer to maintain and conduse people. And if you do not need it, just ignore it - it will not do anything (or break anything) if you do not use it.
April 19, 200620 yr Author No, I can see that it would hardly be worth creating two versions Lars. I'll try the latest EditVoicePack again then. What are your current projects by the way?M Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)

April 19, 200620 yr Author Lars,OK - installation OK and EVP working! I've updated all my missing callsigns too.I have one problem though, which I had in the last installation too, and to which I can't see a reference (sorry if there is one and I missed it): I didn't select the quickfire option (for faster ATC interaction) but the control tower and the pilot keep overlappting - in other words, when ATC & the pilot are exchanging information, they keep 'interupting' each other, the ends of phrases and callsigns get cut off - the reply coming in too soon. Is this an issue you have encountered? Thanks again,Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
April 19, 200620 yr Hi,Are you sure you are running at 1X time? If you are at 2X fast time, this kind of thing happens.Another possibility might be your sound card driver - try updating it. Also, try reducing the acceleration in the sound card section of Windows.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
April 19, 200620 yr Author Hi. Thanks very much for the comments. I must say though that I really don't think that it is my machine that is at the root of the problem (I am running at 1x, yes) - it is a pretty high-end bit of kit and certainly shouldn't need me to reduce sound card acceleration. The Audigy card should be able to cope fine. I get superb graphic performance on this laptop, even at 1920x1200 resolution - like no PC I have ever had - smooth and great fps rates. Also, I get no problem with engine sounds or anything else I throw at it.I am 99.9% certain that the problem is with EVP - or at least with the way FS9 interacts with it. (Still worth having installed, for all that! I am NOT knocking the EVP software itself, I repeat!!).M. :-) Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
April 19, 200620 yr I have occationally heard something like it, but not enough to make me spend time to find out what the problem is. :)Since I have not heard many complains I du suspect it is driver or hardware related (I am not saying it is the driver or hardware failing, it might be an error in the generated wave files that some drivers or sound cards ignore). Hence lovering the acceleration setting might indeed work (as it change the way the driver behaves). It's not really a question of being powerful enough to handle it - any computer is powerful enough to run a few wave files after each other.
April 19, 200620 yr Author Well I'll certainly try as an experiment. I'm not sure what the 'knock on' effect of lowering the acceleration would be in respect of other programmes. No harm in testing though ...Loo forward to seeing the results of your current labours Lars!M. Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)

I too was sceptical but it cured all of my ATC sound problems and I noticed no adverse effect of other programs. R-
April 20, 200620 yr Author Once I notice the problem again (it is one of those sporadic faults!) I'll reduce the acceleration and see if it cures the problem - and post back. Thanks for the encouragement!M. Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
