A question on AI Traffic.

Featured Replies

Fellow Simmers, I consider myself fairly clued in on the workings of AI traffic. Apart from the PAI packages (which have all being updated with AIA/FSP/Evolve models) I have added/compiled over 300 aircraft and corresponding flightplans myself with TTools. One thing that is bothering me is I have plenty of traffic taking off from my airports but I see nothing like the same amount of traffic landing...is there a reason for this? I look forward to reading your thoughts/ideas on this. Regards, Stan.(EGPE)

There are several variables which could cause symptoms like you describe - including flightplans which are running correctly and just have more takeoffs than landings on those days.Have you created schedules of arrivals at those airports - either with AITM or ACA? How many or what percentage of flights are not landing correctly?Do you have TrafficToolBox.dll from Microsoft's SDK and have you checked to see if the arriving aircraft are intialized correctly - but not landing?Do you used forced arrival times in the TrafficTools flight plans?Do your arriving aircraft initialize at the gate?Does the non-arrival issue occur with certain aircraft or all aircraft?Does the non-arrival issue occur at all airports or just a few? What type system do you have - processor and ram?Do the default MS aircraft in an unmodified original traffic030528.bgl file land correctly and on schedule at your airports? That's just to give us a starting point on troubleshooting your issue.

I had the same problem some way back. You might want to check the thread I initiated back then:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchI solved the problem by removing the @ symbol from my timetables as they conflict with realistic ai aircraft airspeeds. If you want to have forced arrivals, i.e, the aircraft should land at a specified point of time, you should use the @ sign but lower the ai aircraft speed to 200.Hope this helps :)Alex

Please NEVER EVER set the aircraft.txt speeds to 200 kts for all the aircraft. That is one of the most misunderstood - misapplied and generally bad pieces of advice on the web about flight simulator AI traffic. It is rooted in two issues (1) flight simulator does a lousy job of handling many of the timing sequences - a well documented problem; and (2) Traffic Tools does NOT produce 100% compatible traffic files for Flight Simulator. All AI aircraft at the same speed in the aircraft.txt will create large flocks of aircraft being intialized at the same place - more than the AI system can handle. It will start doubling and tripling up the landings.Instead just change the intial number in the aircraft.txt file to a 2 - leave the other two digits as identical to the aircraft.cfg cruise speed in KTAS.The forced arrival times issue varies from computer to computer.I have exactly one aircraft on my system which will not work at the aircraft.cfg cruise speed in the aircraft.txt - however, the identical traffic files and aircraft on a different computer. There I have about a half dozen aircraft where I must change the aircraft.txt speed to something between 200 and 300 KTAS.But back to the base question - there are many potential causes of AI traffic not landing correctly. To trouble shoot the problem accurately you need to know:Which aircraft should be landing when (schedule), how many are landing and how many are not?How many aircraft are being initialized in the air; how many are landing successfully; how many are disappearing on descent; how many are being initialized at the gate?Another point - does the flight seem to hang for a few seconds or longer at 80%, or 90% or 98% of loading? That is a sure sign of a major parking issue.

First of all, hello, this is my first post !I'm having the same problems with my AI Traffic. I use Traffic Tools and I write my flightplans manually. I don't impose any arrival times, only departure, I let the computer insert the times. I have been doing my own traffic at various airports (Brest, Paris, Heathrow, Stansted) and haven't had any problems. However, at the moment I'm trying to create a traffic for Nantes(LFRS), because it's my nearest airport, and am having the same problems. The planes take-off without any problem. But I haven't ever seen a plane land at the airport yet. I look in the flightplans file, and go to the airport at the right time, but the aircraft doesn't turn up. Sometimes they're late, but after 40 minutes they're still not there. Is it possibly a problem with the airport location in the Airport.txt file ? If so could someone tell me how to put it right ?Mike

Consider looking into AITM (as suggested by Reggie). Get the latest FS8 version and then the alpha FS9 update. Traffic Tools 2 is required to be in the correct folder. Set up a project to include your flightplan .bgls and let it decompile into your new project. Then open up the search window and let it run (it takes a while - your computer is not hung) and it can generate a schedule display of arrivals and departures at your airport of interest.http://www.molitor-home.de/fs/AITM is freeware. See the installation instructions on the web site. There is also a support forum but read through the FAQs there first.
