Keep getting CTD's

Featured Replies

Many times when I start up FS9, I get a CTD while it's loading the terrain. But this isn't a CTD where it tells me what caused it. It starts loading and halfway through the terrain files, it just stops and gives me a desktop.I tried uninstalling, formatting the partition and then reinstalling FS9 and not installing any addons. I start FS9 and still the same thing. This is with a bare installation!?Is this a video card issue? A Hard Drive issue? Any ideas?I do have the latest drivers for my hardware.I have an ATI 9700pro and only get my drivers from the ATI website. The settings I have are all automatic through the ATI Control Panel. No custom settings. I tried the custom settings but no difference.Goran

More than likely a problem with one of your scenery addons. Remove any recently added scenery (or disable in the scenery library); check your scenery.cfg and make sure it is not corrupted (layers/areas do not match numerically; not in numerical order). A corrupted scenery.cfg will cause this problem.JimYoung

Hi,You mentioned it CTD's during terrain load but textures load very quickly near the same step. If it CTD's here, it most likely is a DXT setting conflict. If you have installed DXT textures you MUST have "Render to Texture" ON within FS9 display/hardware options, otherwise you will always get this CTD whenever a DXT texture attempts to load. DXT textures can be included with scenery, weather/sky graphics add-ons, etc...Best,

I have heard about these issues that were posted here and have looked into all of them, which is why I uninstalled, formatted the partition and reinstalled. I tried running FS with nothing added. A bare naked FS installation with no add ons whatsoever and it happened again. That leads me to believe it could be driver related or hardware related. However, it doesnt happen with my other sims like Flanker, and the rest of them.It doesnt crash all the time though. Sometimes it will load properly with no CTD. Also, if I load FS and it DOES CTD, I start it again and sometimes it goes right through and starts normally, but sometimes I will experience 2 or 3 CTD's until the whole thing starts properly. The most frustrating thing is when I've done about 5 or 6 hours of a flight and it crashes 100ft before touchdown. Although that is rare.I hope I can resolve this because I don't want the CTD's anymore.

Ok, I found an entry in the scenery.cfg file that shouldn't be there. Deleted it and all is well so far. Started FS twice and no CTD's.I'll keep you guys posted if it does CTD again. Thanks for the help.Much appreciated.Goran
