[Resolved] Flex wings

Hi there, sorry if this was already discussed elsewhere, but as I updated my whole A32x fleet yesterday with the newest variation of FAIB (including the NEO variant), I realized that now all models come with a "non-wing flex" variant. Somehow, I have in mind that you recommend this variant instead of the wing flex for the use with FSReborn freeware lights. Is this still valid? If yes, I would need to adjust all my aircraft.cfg's to use the non-wing flex model...

Greetings, Chris

Hi there,

As explained on this topic https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/520171-products-updates-announcements/ I still recommend using NWF as it will allow the effects to be displayed much better, this is due to certain system limitations of the ESP engine and other issues that can occur during the 3Dmax modelling.

I copied for your convenience here the extract about NWF I released before:

If you are using FAIB models It is recommended to use the NWF AI models and adjust the [LIGHTS] section in accordance with FAIB instructions to receive the best AI Lighting experience, for example:

[lights]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
//FAIB 767-300W Lights
light.1 = 1,  35.0,    0.00,  9.88, fx_FAIB_7673_beacon
light.2 = 1,  -0.3,    0.00, -8.25, fx_FAIB_7673_beacon
// If using the NWF models remove the "//" from the beginings of the next lines
light.3 = 3, -36.74, -78.55, 5.074, fx_FAIB_7673_navred
light.4 = 3, -36.74,  78.55, 5.074, fx_FAIB_7673_navgre
light.5 = 3, -44.4, -77.8, 4.84, fx_FAIB_7673_navwhi
light.6 = 3, -44.4,  77.8, 4.84, fx_FAIB_7673_navwhi
light.7 = 2, -48.48, -83.1, 16.1, fx_FAIB_7673_strobe
light.8 = 2, -48.48,  83.1, 16.1, fx_FAIB_7673_strobe

By using the NWF models and implementing the changes above would allow you to have a better view of the AI lights effects under PD3 V4 and V4.1 as the AI lights would be handled much better by the ESP engine, the reason behind this is because there are well know problems with the effects handling for attached lights directly inside the AI the models instead of effects declared using the Aircraft.cfg file, for example for models were the lights are implemented via 3DMAX (using attachment points) the strobes lights will be turned off above 10,000ft by the ESP engine and the navigation and beacon lights will be turned off by the ESP engine when the AI plane distance is bigger than 10NM from the user point of view, they are also disabled above 10,000ft.

You can easily overcome these limitations by using the NWF models instead and edit the Aircraft.cfg file accordingly.

With AI Lights Reborn profesional edition you could use the Wing Flex models and increase the intensity of the lights and effects for this particular model overcoming most of visibility issues caused sometimes by 3Dmax, however the limitations imposed by the ESP engine will continue (strobes and navigation lights disappearing after certain nautical miles or 10,000 ft).

Of course this is just a suggestion, you can use Wing Flex models if you want as the effects will still work but of course you would suffer from the behaviour stated before, if these don't bother you then by all means use any model you want.

I hope this helps,

Best Regards,
Simbol

Ok, perfect, thanks for the clarification. Now, just to be sure: your adjusted aircraft.cfg lights section cover "only" the 767 from FAIB, I guess for the A32x series no adjustment needs to be done?

I provided the 767 light section above as an example, each FAIB release comes with its own readme file that tells you what you are suppose to do.

The A32x readme instructions are different again as also explains that you you can choose different lighting behaviour options using the center tanks, so I fully recommend reading the readme file.

In any case the general rule is that if you wish to use the NWF (Non Wing Flex) model you install the NWF model and you should un-comment the light sections by removing the pre "//"  the beginings of the lights lines inside the aircraft.cfg file which is normally required for beacons, some strobes and navigation lights.
