GTN 750 Traffic

Just got the 750 for XP11 and slowly getting everything working..........

However one thing I can't get yet is the collision/traffic warnings - have world traffic v3 running and was flying around Heathrow - traffic in the air and on the ground but nothing was showing up on the screens (note I did notice some traffic tick box in the options referring to "ryan" from memory but no idea what it does and selecting unselecting did nothing). Also my weather option seemed to be greyed out.

Finally I know the twin otter is 750 enabled but can anyone suggest the necessary change to the aircraft .ini to get it working?

I made a video here on how to get WT3 AI to show in the RealityXP 750 ... see thread here in Tips and Tricks:

Unfortunately having WT3 AI show produces a rather significant drop in FPS and lots of stutters/pauses.

Cheers, Rob.

rob - thanks for the reply and link - Couple of queries

1)note in my case I have no issues with stutters (but also no ai traffic appearing on the 750!)

2)In the video what are you actually adding - it looks like you already have ai traffic assume generated from the world traffic plugin menu (generated around the start and finish airports also with flight plans ) and then you go into the sims ai traffic menu and add an additional 6 or 7 ai planes (WT3 type) - then these seem to appearing only when you enable the WT3 plugin option in the WT3 menu - after doing these are you managing to get all the ai traffic showing in the 750 (so essentially it works as it should)? - downside of this is you seem to get some stutters......do I understanding it correctly? - so if you add some ai traffic (WT3 type) and also enable the WT3 plugin option you can actually get some of the ai to appear in the 750?

and ADD XP11 AI Traffic using WT3(Other) as reference AND make sure you have Traffic enabled in the 750.

When done correct you should see WT3 AI traffic show up n the 750, and you might get a 33% or higher FPS hit.

understood and gave this a try - think I started to get a small number of traffic hits in the 750 - but certainly wasn't all the ai traffic in the area (in house generated WT3 and in game generated WT3 traffic) - so still a bit confused about how its working - how are you tailoring the traffic options in 750 (i.e shield/approach/standard/grond...)- didn't notice any inpact on fps but will test again..............

Hi Rob and thank you for the video and explanations.

There seems to be many different ways third party traffic gets injected in X-Plane, and I've documented in other posts about the AI traffic API limitations. Nevertheless, we'll see how we can improve things and certainly review how this gets handled in Little Navmap as a comparision.

Please note the drop of FPS shouldn't be as significant as in your video though, even on average systems: the Ryan TCAD simulation is certainly quite 'lightweight' in the overall scope of things.

Edit: I've looked at the Little Navmap source code and they are using heuristics to accept/reject AI traffic from the 19 available datarefs slots, whereas we are using the XPlane SDK XPLMCountAircraft() to first get the number of targets. I can see where third party AI injectors are failing, or are not capable of, setting the actual number of targets in the simulation so that this API function returns the correct number. We'll make some changes accordingly then in the next version!

Hi Jean-Luc,

Agree, the FPS hit shouldn't be as bad as it was on my system which leads me to suspect there is a problem with AI traffic implementation ... something appears to be locking the main sync thread based on the pauses I'm seeing and those reported by many other users with the same issue.

Unfortunately I can't determine the root of the problem, be it XP11 or WT3.  It should be noted that the pauses/stutters are NOT related to the RXP 750 ... I'll have the same issue with or without the RXP 750.  The issue is specific to adding WT3 traffic and then adding XP11 AI traffic with the WT3 references.  The ONLY reason to add the XP11 AI traffic references is so that they show up in programs like Little Nav Map and/or RXP 750 or any product that needs the AI data.

Hopefully I wasn't pointing the figure at RXP, not my intention at all.  My hunch is this issue will need to be resolved in the XP11 AI traffic API and hopefully in a future XP11 update.

Cheers, Rob.

It looks like in your video, LNM can still show the traffic up when there is no AI traffic references isn't it? We'll certainly add an option to the TCAD settings, say "Use Third Party Traffic Sources", so as to enable traffic with heuristics (scan and filter out probable invalid values) instead of using X-Plane SDK reported number of targets (XPLMCountAircraft).

This AI traffic issue has long been reported in different forms, and I admit your video has made it clearer for us. The new option shall help out a lot then!

Yes, but I had not flown a full departure to destination so I don't know if it would just eventually terminate current tracked AI in LNM and not produce full route traffic per flight plan.

But if you could add to TCAD for 3rd party sources, that would work great and we can avoid using the FPS consuming XP11 add AI traffic work around.

All good.

thanks for the replies.

So just wanted to clarify and make sure I understood - in terms of World Traffic v3 generated using their interface in game (this is the only ai I use) - this will not display currently in the GTN 750 - although you may release an update that will allow it to display in the future?

Also noticed the weather function in the 750 seems greyed out (note am using x enviro) - is it possible to have it work with x enviro?

  • WT3 injects and display traffic on your screen and its traffic view window.
  • WT3 writes the XPlane traffic datarefs.
  • The GTN displays traffic based on the content of the official XPlane traffic datarefs.
  • In addition, the GTN asks X-Plane for the number of AI aircraft, and only displays up to that number, which is the number of AI Traffic configured in X-Plane, not in WT3, although the SDK has provisions for 3rd party plugins like WT3 to tell other plugins how many they are controlling, via this function.
  • Hence, the number of WT3 traffic displayed in the GTN depends on the number of X-Plane AI traffic configured in the X-Plane settings.
  • The suggested change above is to make the GTN displaying traffic regardless of the number reported by X-Plane.

@mac44 As for the weather pages, there are deactivated because there is no weather source connected, although it would be cool there are.

thanks got it

so the update should solve the issue for me at least and display all mt WT3 aircraft (generated via WT3 menu)

out of interest now if I generated x4 ai aircraft via XP11 menu and have 10 WT3 aircraft (generated from WT3 menu) - would it display x4 of the WT3 aircraft?

In my case, yes that is exactly what happened (assuming you add XP11 AI using WT3(other) reference).

However, it only took adding just 1 XP11 AI to cause my performance issues, adding 1 or 19 produced the exact same performance degradation of 33% (regardless of XPR 750 usage or not) ... this is what leads me to suggest there is a bug in XP11 around the handling of AI aircraft.

It looks like Jean-Luc is going to enhance RXP 750 to be able to "see" WT3 aircraft without have to resort to needing to add XP11 AI aircraft ... good news indeed.

Cheers, Rob.

got it!

so really if I want to see say 6 WTv3 aircraft - I just add x6 ai aircraft from the in game menu - and it should display not x6 in game generated ai but assume the closest x6 WTv3 generated planes on the 750?

out of interest does anyone know if on other planes I fly (such as FFA320 + IEXG 737 classic + zibo 737x) if you enable the TCAS system should it display WTv3 ai - or do we have the same limitation?
