FS2004 ATC, SIDS, STARS and LDS 767-300ER + Radar Contact

Featured Replies

Is there currently any way to coordinate the ATC in FS2004 to utilize SID and STARS, as when programming the LDS 767-300ER's FMC? I know you can't do it out of the FS2004 box, but can you with the program Radar Contact? If you can, is this hard to do?RH

First it should be understood that DPs (DIDs) and STARS are common routes as specified for ATC, mostly for their and traffic efficiency by flowing aircraft into a predictable departure and approach common pattern. ATC may elect to have you not fly the described route or just a portion of it.If you include waypoints in your plan (when exported in FS9 format) that belong to a DP or STAR, they may be used by ATC. For Radar Contact 4 here is what happens:Departure:If your first waypoint is within 30 nm of the runway it will tell you to fly as filed and deliver the first altitude to you. If you are outside that range it will issue you vectors to your first waypoint, again with altitudes. You are also offered a preflight no restrictions option so that you can fly as filed for departure as well where your first waypoint is outside of 30 nm.Arrivals:You will be advised of the active runway and at some point be removed from your route and vectored. If you prefer to fly your own arrival you can choose IAP for the active or other runway and fly the procedure. Both:There is a NOTAMS option each for departure and arrival where is checked allows you to deviate from ATC instructions without the controller nagging you. In both cases you still will still have tower communications as appropriate.ETC:Radar Contact for takeoff and landing looks for AI patterns and if they exist use the same runways that AI use. If AI are not present then it uses its own priority based on weather and runway properties (including approach types) for best fit. In either case you can override the ATC choice and select your desired runway and it will be granted.Radar Contact enables the option of interacting with AI. It will announce targets in your vicinity and while you are in the air it will offer some control of AI to inhibit runway infringement while you are on final and also separation from your aircraft. This helps with dense traffic that can happen on busy DPs and STARS as well as in the airport pattern.RC ATC may nag you but will not cancel your IFR. You can elect to go visual at any time. There support forum is here on AVSIM and you may wish to browse it.I use the PMDG 737NG with FMC routes exported from FS Build 2 for both the FMC import and RC's flightplan (FS9 .pln format). When I am enroute I do not pay attention to the arrival runway in the FMC. When approach announces the arrival runway at that time I enter the runway and approach, but usualy not the STAR into the FMC because the expected STAR is already part of the flight plan. I usually select my own procedure IAP or let RC vector me using MCP FLCHG and HDG controls as well as speed. I still have the approach waypoints on the ND and I can check that I am being correctly vectored for a proper merge to final. I can engage VOR/LOC or APP once I am turned near to the final course and let the AP fly the final course with glideslope as well if available.Hope this helps.
