February 7, 20188 yr So when I left off we had landed and were sitting idling in the F406 on the ramp here at Page Field in Ft Myers, Florida, trying to hook up with the aviation company from which I have leased an “island-festive” livery C208 Grand Caravan with updated avionics for our “dive” down to the islands. We needed to rendezvous so we could offload our vacation gear from the F406 to that C208! When I finally get in touch with them and they come to meet me, they show up with a “plane Jane” C208 with what I consider to be antiquated avionics. NOT what I signed on for! Has the look to it that would have us climbing out of it in business suits instead of swim suits! It is also way too clean inside. We want to feel some sand under our flip flops during the flight down. Just to get in the mood! @^%$#^^**(& !!! The Garmin GPS in the panel is an early GNS 430 that has such basic firmware that it fires up in a millisecond, with no internal tests and little if any connection to key instruments in the panel. It lacks any advanced IFR approach capabilities and has what appears to be a badly outdated NAV database. Then there is this weather scope that appears next to useless. This is the C208 I signed the lease agreement for. Not only festive in livery, a match for our festive attitude for this trip, but clearly called out in their literature as including upgraded avionics. A new version 2 Reality XP GNS 430 GPS with the latest Garmin firmware. It was described as fully integrated into the panel with full RNAV/WAAS capabilities, an updated NAV database, and the ability to import flight plans from memory cards, and even automatically transmit my flight clearance request to ATC. I had already stored my flight plans ahead just to more conveniently use those capabilities! Oh! It also was supposed to have a great Bendix King IN-2026A weather radar, not the trash in what they brought over. Should I put my foot down and demand the C208 I signed the lease for? They seem to think they have me over a barrel.
