Qantas jet mishap causes delays

Featured Replies

FIRE crews are monitoring a Qantas Boeing 767 airliner to ensure its overheated brakes don't cause a fire. The incident at Melbourne Airport has caused delays to flights to and from Melbourne this morning when the airliner blocked a taxiway.Air Services Australia spokesman Ben Mitchell said the brakes of Qantas flight 34 from Auckland had overheated in a landing about 8.30am (AEST)."It can't be moved until the brakes cool down and that might affect arrivals at Melbourne," Mr Mitchell said.Crews from four airport fire trucks monitored the plane to ensure the brakes did not lead to a fire, he said. Melbourne Airport spokeswoman Brooke Lord said the plane was moved soon after it landed. The mishap slightly delayed flights to and from Melbourne but would not affect the schedule during the day, she said.No one was injured in the incident.
