P3D V4 Performance on 8550U laptop with 1080ti TB3 eGPU

I'm considering to sell the desktop computer and replace it with 8550U/16GB(DDR4-2400 Dual-ch). Also I'll buy Thunderbolt 3 eGPU kit and GTX 1080TI for desktop for connecting to that laptop.

The performance of I7-8550U about the same performance as 7700HQ(=desktop 4790).

The performance hit of TB3 eGPU is about 20-30% when using laptop's display and the fps is high. If using 4K external monitor, the performance hit is lower than 10% even when using GTX 1080TI.

Also I think P3D doesn't really use multicore much, even V4. Also I saw 4790K(stock clock) has near fps compared to 8700k(stock clock), so even IPC/clock difference on CPU seems not to affect P3D v4 performance.

So, how do you guys think about it? Can a 8550U+GTX 1080ti TB3 eGPU laptop deliver enough power to play 4K P3D v4 with rich graphic options and addons like PMDG/REX/etc.?

Yes. I have a MSI GT73 laptop... I7-7700HQ, 1070-8 gig, 16 gigs ram, drives are M.2. At home I have a Dell 34" 3415  3800x1400 (approx) plugged in. It runs P3d no problem. I have a lot of add on scenery, aircraft etc....my P2dV4.2 is over 350 gigs. Runs well. With the M.2 drives it boots up fast as well. I've been using laptops for flight sims since approx 2002.

Can you tell me how much fps you get in FHD resolution? Or even better, can you provide me a in-game video?

I don't know how to take a video and post it. FPS can range from low 20s in a high demand area (example FSDT CYVR, PMDG aircraft, etc, It does slow down there but I am fine with what I see on my machine) with nasty weather and a complicated aircraft to 50, 60, 70 in cruise. The numbers don't tell the story as just about all the time it is incredibly smooth. With a 1080 you should be fine. I am totally happy with my 1070. Keep in mind your mileage may vary. As to whether you buy is your up to you.......I'm just passing on what I have experienced with my machine.

I bought a similar pc:

I7-8550U

NVIDIA 940MX

8 GB Ram 2400 MHz

I run P3d fine but I haven’t got many payware sceneries. I’ve got only the 777 by pmdg and I run it at 30 fps with mid-low settings. But, if I run the F22 (for example), I’ve got 45 fps with mid-high settings. I always run them at 1920 1080.
