June 21, 200619 yr Oh, in my first post, the square brackets were taken out. What I meant to show you was that in the Tigercat's Sound.cfg file, all you need is this:{fltsim}alias=CorsairsoundWhere you replace the { } squiggly brackets with square brackets...and where I typed Corsair, you would type the folder where your Corsair's files are.Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
June 22, 200619 yr Okay, I did what you said and it worked great. Thanks!!!Now...do you know why the Tigercat will only use the mid and full RPM sound files? The Corsair has around 40 or so sound files. I linked by alias like you said but it only picks up a few. On the other hand the actual Corsair uses all of its sound files. On top of that, the Tigercats engines are funny. When you start #1 the #1 prop starts spinning but when you get combustion the #2 engine smokes and the right side of the aircraft torques. LOL! How funny is that?Any suggestions there?!?!?
June 22, 200619 yr Is there something other than the "aircraft.config" that determins how the aircraft will run, start, fly, etc?Like...what determins how the aircraft will start the engines?

That's all it needs. There should be no other files in your Tigercat's sound folder, either. Just the sound.cfg.If you do that, you'll be using the exact same sounds the Corsair uses.I don't understand how, if you aliased it correctly, it's only "using a few" of the sound files. If you aliased it as above, it WILL use every .wav file that is referenced in the Corsair's sound.cfg. Look in the Corsair's sound.cfg file...that is the sound.cfg that your Tigercat is using, if you alias the sounds.>>On top of that, the Tigercats engines are funny. How funny is that?>>Any suggestions there?!?!?>I know the F7F has twin tractors on it's front, like a Fairey Gannett...and I assume by having to contra-rotating props that was done to eliminate torque effect. So you would think it wouldn't ever torque around like that. But I don't have the plane in FS so I don't know. You could look in the Tigercat's aircraft.cfg file, maybe under the piston engine section and so forth for clues as to how or why it does this. I'm not sure if torque effects can be set in the aircraft.cfg or in the model itself.Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
June 22, 200619 yr One thing I can think of is, you are using Corsair sounds for your Tigercat. The problem I can see with that, is that the Corsair has just the one engine. The Tigercat has two engines I think. So that means you might have some weird things happen on startup...like you might hear one engine and not the other, and so forth. But I don't have the plane, so I can't say. There is a piston engine section in the plane's aircraft.cfg that has a lot of settings for the engines. The Microsoft aircraft SDK has details on what all of the settings do.Some of the settings for flight are in the .AIR file, and some are in the aircraft.cfg. The SDK goes all into it. The .AIR file is editable using the AirED program or the SDK. Many times, you can alter values in the aircraft.cfg though, and get good results...particularly with [flaps] section settings, and [weight] section settings. For instance you can set up your Tigercat with bomb weight, or rockets, etc.--the bombs or rockets won't actually appear in the sim, but their weight will, and it will affect the flight of the plane.Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
June 22, 200619 yr [FLTSIM]alias=Corsair_F4U7soundThis is what I typed in the sound config. It uses some of the files but not all. This is bugging the heck out of me now. I've tried everything I can think of.

I'll download the items that you talked about and see if I can alter the air file.Hey, and I want to thank you for all of your help too.
June 22, 200619 yr I was just looking in the AIR file and noticed that there are turbine engines listed. I had also found this in the aircraft config. Why do you hink they would be in there?
June 22, 200619 yr Okay, here is what's happening so far. I copied the engine data from the corsair to the F7f config file and I removed the turbine section out. I also added the #2 engine back into the config of the F7f. Then I linked the sound files of the corsair to the F7f by typing the info noted above so there is nothing else in the sound config but:[fltsim]alias=Corsair_F4U7soundNow, with all of this done, I open FS9 but when I try to start the engines they act like they're out of fuel. LOL! The #1 eng statrs spinning with the sound of the corsair firing up, the #2 eng spits out some smoke (some how they are reversed like that) and then the #1 eng dies and that's it.Now, I can slew the tigercat to any altitude and the engines automaticly start but the throttles will not advance. They remain at idle. But I do get the idel sound from the Corsair so that's good news. This tells me that I'm getting more than the sounds I was getting before. To advance the throttles I have also tried F4 but it wont work for this plane. I thought it might be all of the aircraft but it's not.Does anyone have any ideas on this?
June 24, 200619 yr Well, first of all, it wasn't all that important to use the "alias" trick, unless you are short on disk space, which these days I imagine that you aren't. Whether you alias it or not, it's not going to change the problem you are having. It sounds like you've got two issues to deal with. The first is the one vs. two engine thing. You'll need to modify the sound.cfg so it knows to provide sounds for two engines, hence, it is better to copy the sounds from the F4U to the F7F, so the F7F can have its own sound.cfg file. For directions on how to modify the sound.cfg file, go here http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=search and near the bottom are directions on how to modify the sound files, in this case it is for the GeeBee racer soundset to be used in Milton's Beech 18, but it should be similar for you. Then you'll have to deal with the turbine thing, which is probably the real reason why the sounds aren't working like you expected. I imagine the original author just used the aircraft.cfg and .air file from the King Air or something and then may or may not have made some modifications. If you want to have a more accurate model, you'll have to create your own aircraft.cfg and .air file, or perhaps use one from another plane and modify them appropriately. And on that, I am clueless. I do know, however, that by messing with the turbine engine stuff in aircraft.cfg and removing them, unless you replaced it with something else, you're going to have screwed with the engine parameters and FS won't know which direction is up in how to control the engines.Perhaps you could start with the F4U files and go from there, changing it to two engines, etc., etc.. Or maybe another plane like the Beech 18 or Howard 500 would be a good place to start. Or perhaps you could go to Simouthouse or something and talk to the folks there, maybe there's another F7F with more realistic files you can borrow from, or take the files from CFS2 and modify them appropriately.Point is, the solution here isn't quite so simple.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-) Tom Perry
