April 27, 20188 yr Folks, Quick question. Is it worthwhile to upgrade my rig? My current setup is a s follows: 6700K @ 4.8GHZ GTX1070 16GB of RAM P3DV4.2 Would I see an appreciable gain in performance by moving to an 8700K and a 1080Ti, or should I keep the rig I have for another year or so? Thanks in advance for any advice! Busdriver (Bill) KPHL 8086K @5.4GHz, EVGA GTX 1080 TI FTW3, DDR4 16GB @4000MHz, Samsung 970 NVMe (M.2) Windows 10 Pro, Samsung M.2 1TB for P3D V4.5

Upgrading the CPU will make a small difference (maybe 5%) - see http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/intel_core_i5_8600k_processor_review,26.html - the single core IPC is only slightly better. You may gain a little more in P3D with the extra cores. If you're not running 4k, the 1070 should be good enough. I'd say keep what you have for the time being. i7-14700k | Asus ROG STRIX Z790-F Gaming WIFI | 32GB DDR5 RAM | MSI RTX 4080 Super | WD Black SN850X 1TB & 2TB | Corsair HX1000i ATX3.0 | MSI MAG401QR 40" monitor | Win 11 Pro 64-bit | Meta Quest 3
