July 1, 200619 yr Paul,>Really good info for me to get my teeth into.... Ian and>others.. do you know how Gatwick, Luton, LCY and Stansted fit>into this...?Not really, they appear to be given the same treatment as us until they are passed over to their associated director/approach controllers. I don't know what happens to them then, although they do tend to appear at the right airport and they don't crash much so I'm guessing they do OK :-)> I assume they all have their own stars/sids - Correct>it's a pretty limited space for all this. Does London area>control receive all flights and then pass then to the relevent>approach?Yep, it gets the arrivals from up there to down here and the departures from down here to up there ... without them meeting in the middle. Of course "London area control" is about 5 different frequencies, possibly more.>Off to try and put all this into practice with the sim...I've tried (during my training), it's tough to really get a feel for it as the difficult bit is recovering from the changing traffic/ATC environment on the fly. I found it was tough to surprise myself :-)I guess if you're certified insane you could have a pop at it. :-)Hope this helps,Take care,Ian
July 2, 200619 yr Thanks Ian,Being a Londoner living a long way from home.. and "insane" for the amount of time and money I've invested in this hobby, I reakon I'll try and reproduce it as best I can using all the tools available.I fly into London quite a few times a year, abd those controllers seem to have it sorted... never had a noticable problem. I guess their system works! LOLIn fact I've only ever had probs in US airspace... divert from ORD to IND due weather, go arounds in MIA... no tell a lie.. I had a tight conx in CDG inbound fro ORD going to BOM... bloody go around... and then took ages to get back on final... had to run to catch that flight.Cheers for the Info...Paul
July 2, 200619 yr Thanks Ian.Confirms my suspicions that MSFS ATC is as good as any alternatives, and has many advantages, compared to subsititute products!Michael
