Navaid ID question

Featured Replies

Is their a way of changing the ID of an navaid at an airport in FS2004? I've searched for an editor, but have had no luck. AFCAD allows you to edit some items, but you cannot change the idenitifer.

Because all the Navaids for a region are kept in one file - not the airport data file - editing that file has proven extremely dangerous / disruptive to FS.The workaround we have been using is to use AFCAD to modify navaids. First, AFCAD cannot delete a default NAVAID because the data is in a file AFCAD cannot edit. However FS will recognize changes to a NAVAID in an AFCAD file. The procedure is basically to change the frequency of the old Navaid to something which will not be used - shorten the range as much as possible. Then create a new Navaid with the new identifier and frequency. Not a perfect method but it has worked acceptably at times.Unfortunately the old Navaid will continue to be displayed in the GPS / Map View and addons like FSNav.Localizers are a separate issue because an ILS/Localizer which is not tied to a runway with an approach file is just a landing aid. FS never knows it is there until the approach is coded with XML and compiled into a separate file.
