It is even more wonderful by train and bus, I have traveled the route several times over the last 30 years. It is amazing to watch the architecture change from French style, to German style, and finally over the mountain pass to Italian style, all in the course of a couple of hours. I have taken the train journey from Lausanne into Milano and just enjoyed the scenery, I overflew the area in 1995 and was in the region again last year, to the North of Sion, in the Bernese Oberland. Once I flew from Zurich to Geneva on an American airlines flight, and the beauty of the Alps was just breathtaking, and we did not fly all that high on the short hop, less than FL250.... One has not seen mountains until one has seen the Alps, it is because of the difference in elevation from the ground to the mountain peaks, for instance Mt. Blanc towering over 13,000 feet above the glaciated valley floor in France. Only near Death Valley, near Mt. Whitney, and a few other places in the world does one see such elevation differences, even more incredible when seen from the air. John
August 4, 20187 yr Yes, great choice of route, indeed! Need to, at least, try this on my MSE (if not, in real, as you've done).
