June 7, 200520 yr Continental Lite was a failed venture that pre-Bethune Continental used to combat Southwest. It was very similar to Delta Express and the now-defunct MetroJet & "Shuttle by United". It was also the largest such subsidiary, with close to 100 planes, mostly DC9s and 733s. It also had the same problems that those subsidiaries had-- passengers began to confuse that carrier's no frills service and lack of a premium cabin with Continental's mainline. Bethune determined that CALite was hurting CO much more than helping it fight Southwest, so it was dismantled in 1995.
