(In memory of) Fokker Aircraft and the Flying Dutchman

Featured Replies

I extracted Flight1/Digital Aviation Fokker 70/100, one of my old favorites (Meanwhile AS/DA CRJ is sitting idle and cold&dark in my hangar waiting for some serious study!). Fokker 70 (coming in 1993 - later than Fokker 100) was a modern and capable regional jet, but unfortunately it entered market at the wrong time. In the face of aggressive competition from CRJ/ERJ, and compounded by lack of financial backing from operators, it could not be a commercial success, and its production spanned only about 4 years.

Fokker 70's development consisted of "...cutting various fuselage sections of Fokker 100, but keeping the wings and tail....". After "Fokker" company filed for bankruptcy in 1997, another company called "Rekkof" ("Fokker" spelt backwards!) tried to bring "Fokker" aircraft back into the air, but apparently without success.

Anyway, In the SIM, Fokker 70 (smaller of the two) is an appealing and "cute" aircraft to fly, and, as expected, DA, had created an excellent simulation of the aircraft (no VC though!). Below are a few screenshots of the Fokker 70 (in the elegant colors of Austrian Arrows) test-flying my favorite hop from Yakutat (PAYA) to Juneau (PAJN) across the snowy mountains and glaciers of Southern Alaska (Orbx SAK + PAJN). Thanks for viewing these images of this airplane from the iconic aircraft manufacturer credited to be one of the earliest in the world (1912-1996)!

Nice aircraft.  I flew on it just once, an American airlines Fokker between Houston and Detroit, lovely ride I recall, flew on it in 1995.
