Default Aircraft Prop chrome spinners not chrome anymore

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody,

running FSX Steam Edition. Preview DirectX 10 turned off. Running windows 7. NVIDIA graphics.

The prop spinners on all the default aircraft that have them plus some freeware add-on aircraft stopped showing up with the chrome effect.  Just shows up as a black spinner. haven't changed any settings for a long time and just notice it today.  The rest of aircraft textures look ok. Opened up the aircraft in FSrepaint and the chrome textures show up in preview mode ok and the GlobalEnv_AC_Chrome.dds file is located in the FSX textures folder.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

It may be time to verify your Steam files.  A possible corrupt file somewhere.

To verify your game files please do the following:

1. Load the Steam platform and log into your account
2. Click the Library tab in the menu at the top of the screen
3. Click the List View from the view options on the top right of the screen
4. Right click on Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition to bring up a popup menu
5. Click on Properties from the popup menu to bring up another popup box
6. Click on Local files from the popup box menu
7. Click on Verify integrity of game cache from the Local file options
8. Wait for the progress bar to finish verifying your files. Additional files may download
9. Restart Steam
10. Restart Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition

Charlie, thanks for the response, will this action reset everything or just update the files that need replacing?  Will this affect my ORBX install?

It acts somewhat like the repair option for boxed FSX.  It just fixes any bad or corrupted files.  Does not affect addons and as far as I know, doesn't affect the FSX.cfg.

Took Charlie's recommendation and it worked ok.  I was hesitant at first because I have made quite a few changes to the default aircraft panels. This included updating default gauges with payware and freeware gauges.  After the file verification and files being replaced, all my panel mods were still there, I thought the file verification would replace my panel.cfg files with the default panel.cfg files.  Did a backup of my airplanes folder just in case.  My scenery add-ons looks like they were untouched as well.

Glad to hear it's working.  I'm usually not wrong.  I thought I was wrong, once, but I was wrong!

I have a similar scenario: spinnerChrome.dds in the common object file. Load it into DXT bmp and it shows up as a dds DXT5 128x128 image with it showing in the alpha box in the upper right side. It does not show up on the model as chromed as the thumbnail shows. I accomplished the Steam file verification procedure. Still no joy. I really would like to resolve this issue because I am doing a repaint of my buddys real plane and it had the chrome spinner.

Can anybody out there help?
