Hi

Recently purchased a new PC running i5 quad core windows 7 64 bit. GeForce730 which runs FSX SE no problem. 8gb ram etc.

I soon figured out that xplane11 was a no go without upgrades to ram and graphics card however FSX was running perfectly for a couple of weeks.

Now problems start..

I see after extensive google, YouTube and forum searching my problem is shared by many.

For the last few days whether it be mid flight or near to ILS approach my sim crashes and throws me to desktop (FSX not responding)

Highly frustrating seeing as the only reason I purchased a new pc and joystick was to immerse myself into flight sim.

Ive reed articles about changing a .dll in my FSX folder but I’m a little clueless when it comes focus things like this, I get the idea but I’m worried about messing up my new pc, choosing the correct version etc.

Any help appreciated. Also, I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled FSX and the problem persists.

The plan was to upgrade scenery with FTX global and buy PMDG 737 NGX but I don’t want to waste another penny if it’s going to be like this. 😞

The AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide has answers to these question.  The AVSIM CTD Guide, page 28, has guidance for installing the uiautomationcore.dll with a link to both versions.  This is for boxed versions only.  FSX-SE automatically installs the proper uiautomationcore.dll.  It also has information on Page 17 on how to monitor Virtual Address Space (VAS) when using FSX or P3DV3 or lower.  Most users of FSX will run out of VAS near the end of the flight and probably the cause(s) of your crashes.  Many members have upgraded to Prepar3D (P3D)V4 which is a 64 bit application.  FSX and P3DV3 and lower are 32 bit applications and you are subject to running out of VAS when using them.  A 64 bit application has almost unlimited VAS so you can crank up the settings and run many addons in the background.

You indicate you have an i5 quad core but that does not tell us much.  An i5 does not have the capabilities of an i7.  Is it an i5 8269U, an i5 8400T; 2400; 2500; 7400; etc.?  Is it 3.0 GHz, 2.5GHz?  It is powerful enough to run FSX-SE but you may have many limitations with P3DV4 and above.  You would want to look at the recommendations at PMDG and Lockheed Martin for the PMDG 737 and P3DV4.

You can run FSX-SE okay with the PMDG 737 but you will have to be careful what other add-ons are running in the background at the same time.  The AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide gives you some suggested setting.

Thanks for your reply Jim.

I'm running an i5 3300 @ 3.00 GHz

I'm just starting out and will eventually upgrade to the bigger and better, at this point wanted to check it out and see if it something I want to spend more money on, which i will, in time.

Strangely enough I haven't crashed to desktop for the past 5 flights. I'm generally doing domestic UK flights into Heathrow to practise my landings. I haven't any add ons other than repaints and several WOAI.

I'm gradually learning more and this forum is highly helpful.
